will the war in northern ireland ever stop? i mean come on.. right now they’re fighting over which route the school children should take on their way to school. catholic kids can’t walk through a protestant area without being attacked, if i got it right. insane if you ask me.. and an ongoing tragedy for the people in northern ireland that never seems to end. i don’t know much about the war there, and i’m not taking anyone’s side.. and i know this conflict goes way back in history, it’s complicated etc but why the f*ck can’t they just get along?? don’t mean to upset you people from that area, it must be real tough living there.

But with that same bible they bless the people who go fighting against the other religion, who happens to love the same god.
Religion has made more wars then anything else in this world.

Personal: I really hate what is happening in Northern Ireland at the moment (and also in the past), fighting a war over childerns head.

Yeah man, I just wanted to start a topic on this. I’ve just read that there was another attack, on CHILDREN, for God’s sake!! They don’t even know what’s going on, and yet there are some adults who judge those children for their religion.
All wars are insane, but I can get really angry when children become involved. It really hurts when I see another bomb-attack in Palestina/Israel, espcecially when innocent children are the victimes. A couple of weeks ago, I read in the paper that there was this guy who put a bomb in a toy! On the news, you could see the child’s seat from the car which was blown away at the explosion. I just can’t understand that these men can live with themselves, and that in some societies, it gives you prestige. It’s a sick, sick world we’re living in…

At last,
I have often wondered how much we really care about what is going on around us here, on this very board.
With so much hate on this planet, all (I’m sorry if this offends anyone) based on religion.

We seem to be a slave to societies vision, that the only way we can be better than anyone else is to have the next Playstation, or X-Fuckin’-Box, when there are children, not only being injured or killed for reasons they don’t know, but fighting wars, being brainwashed into fighting wars for their stupid political leaders…

It makes me sick, so sick I’ve thought about ending it here and now.

I’ve sometimes had to walk away from a party because I can’t enjoy myself without thinking about a story I read in Time, about a 7 year old kid from Sierra Leone, he’d been kidnapped from his parents at the age of 5, drugged and brainwashed for 2 years, and sent back to his family at the age of 7, with a fuckin’ machine gun and killed his own parents. Before dying, his uncle asked ‘Why?, why have you killed me’ and the kid could only say ’ I don’t know why, uncle’…

Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but on the last page of Infernal Love, the guys wrote ‘this album was created at a time when there was a real chance of peace in Northern Ireland’
There will never be peace in Ireland, nor will there ever be peace on this planet. It’s a pessimistic view I know, but it’s the reality.

We have created this world, we created religion (not some god), we created hate, and we are going to suffer as a consequence.

For anyone who cares;

http://www.amnesty.org/
http://www.hatemonitor.org/

And of course http://www.wm3.org

(Rene, come on, it’s about time we had some html on this board)

From the best british group forum, I think this is fitting;
‘imagine all the people, living life in peace’
I think we all know who I’m talking about.

But hey, if this is too much, why not do what we do every day, what I’m often guilty of doing…switch the channel, turn on the playstation, turn the blind eye, pretend it’s not real, pretend it doesn’t matter…

I appologise ladies and gentlemen for my rant, it’s the longest one I’ve done so far, but you’ve hit a subject close to my heart. I now have a headache, and am going to sleap, in my comfortable bed, made in china probably, by child labourers, goodnight and sleep tight.

BLACK HALOS!
Look for the BLACK HALOS video ‘Some Things Never Fall’ on MuchMusic. It’s in rotation now and ends with a show of support for the WM3. They have photos of Damien, Jessie and Jason and the wm3.org URL at the bottom. the BLACK HALOS are another GREAT band that has decided to step up and speak out (loudly) about this injustice. Check out the BLACK HALOS if they come anywhere near your town, and visit their site for tour and CD info.

And I think that they need much more support then this!!!

the same children that are getting bombs thrown at them today will be the same that throw them tomorrow… how is this suppose to stop when fighting and war is how the children have learned to deal with their problems?

the problem is that as humans we feel the need to make ourselves feel better, and the best way we know how to do this is to put down those that are different… religion, race, sex, sexuality, etc., will always be used as tools to belittle others in order to make us feel good about ourselves…

there will never be such a thing called peace if we continue to celebrate our differences instead of our similarities…

That’s all I’ve ever known to be on the news - fucking Northern Ireland. It never stops. When the Peace Agreemant was signed, the whole country was celebrating but it was a fucking joke - it’ll never stop. I know there are some cool people from the North (Therapy? for example, and some of the people on this board) but a lot of the Northern Irish are absolute wankers, and personally I’m sick of hearing about them. All the talk and still no peace. There will never be peace there, it’s unfortunate.

I don’t think it’s about the religion, I think that’s just what they say to fight a political war.
How can you fight and kill for a religion, that is suposedo be an peaceful and tolerant religion? The only reason why they are fighting is hate and revenge, and as long as people get killed there, there will allways be someone who wants to avenge this death.
If someone feels offended by this, because I don’t come from Northern or the Republic of Ireland and don’t know what the war is about, please write it down here, I would like to know why there is still war if not for revenge.

I think it’s important to talk about this topic here, because it would be totaly meaningless if this board was only filled with mesages like ‘the new T? album is so great’ etc.

I don’t even know the real difference between the catholic religion and the protestant religion. They share the same God, it makes no sense to fight with each other based on some religious differences. I don’t give a damn if someone has another religion. It becomes a problem when someone tries to shove their believes about something like religion down my throat. It’s all about respect and tolerance. They basically to the same now as the nazis did: judging someone based on their belief, race, religion, etc. It’s pure fascism from both sides!

This is bad, very bad. Not only the WTC (of which both towers have now collapsed) but also the Pentagon has been hit by a commercial airplane. I read there could be as much as 50.000 people in the WTC at the time of the crashes.

Another plane crashed in Pennsylvania leaving all people dead, but it is not known if it is connected to the attacks.

i’m not so sure it will be an all out war like people will think… it wasn’t a country, and so the US will have a much harder time trying to wage a war on a group of terrorists… it will depend on who did it and where they are located and the relations the US has with that country and their allies…

It’s going to be a really nasty few weeks.

There’s already been explosions in Kubul, but no-one knows if the US is behind it, personally I doubt it. There’s a civil war going on there, it could be one side carrying out the violence and conveniently blaming the US.

I hate this world right now.

But I am proud of the way New Yorkers dealt with the terror today. Calmly, and efficiently when I would have just curled up in a corner and…

Dermot wrote:

The war in Northern Ireland has very little to do with religion, sometimes it’s just used as an excuse or to incite violence, but in reality it is because the two communities are so totally juxtaposed. Someone earlier said protestants and catholics worship the same god - why don’t they just get along?

Its because Ps & Cs go to different schools, have different jobs, live in different places, go to different bars, have different holidays etc etc, they know very little about each other and so are fearful and resent each other. Theres a famous myth that Catholic parents used to tell their kids you could tell who a Protestant is because their eyes will be too close together and vice versa!

However, while the Holy Cross scandal is totally abhorrent and we still have the odd murder (just at the weekend a jounalist was shot dead in the back whilst walking with his wife) considering over 1000 people a year were shot or blown up in the 70s I think NI has made massive strides. Sinn Fein in the same government with the Ulster Unionists 10 years ago would be unthinkable.

I also think the ‘war’ proper is over, after the events of sep. 11th it would be difficult for the IRA to go back to terrorism with much public support, and also after 3 of its members were arrested in Columbia.

Finally, I know all the stuff about the assembly must bore the shit out of people living in the mainland UK, but these next few days ahead are absoloutely vital, because if the assembly tumbles down, there will be many people who will try and take hold of the situation to suck NI back down to the level it was when I was a kid (step forward Mr Paisley), and if it is felt in the Republican community that mainland Britons are ignoring the problem of Ireland, they launch a bombing campaign on the mainland, so lets pray the politicians (as useless as they are) can work something out.
