1. Yes, but this would put an extra strain on my Access database which is not lightning fast as it is now, finding out who to send an e-mail after each new post. Good idea though, but I would love to get SQL Server hosting before I do this.

Maybe I could add a micropayment system to the site where everyone sends me a buck to cover the costs of hosting a lot of extra features?

2. Yes, I’ve considered this also, but never thought it really added anything useful. Your reason for suggesting has changed my idea about it though, so I’ll add this soon.

Yeah, I know Ikonboard and several other message boards, and I like some features they have that I don’t have. I could probably make all of those features, if I would have some more time, but I like to keep things simple for new users as well.

I really think some of those message boards have gone too far adding new features, which created a lot of bloated pages on which you can hardly read the real posts, because of all the blinking and colored stuff.

I will add some new features to the boards soon though which will also be used on the official site. For example, the extended user profiles we talked about a while ago. Cheers!

That would probably a be a pain, Christian. Rene would need to write a cookie to your system, then check the cookie against the message board database everytime you log on. It would definitely slow things down a bit too.

The email notification isn’t that bad IF the message board uses a heirarchy rather than what is done here. If you reply to a post here, you’re in essence replying to every post on the thread. It could be set up so that you could reply to a specific post on the thread, in which case you’d only get an email when someone responded to that particular post, not the entire thread. Too much work to make it worthwhile though!
