What is the connection between these songs?

#

Started by Tightrope Walker

Let me see if somebody else noticed this.

Turn, Opal Mantra, Stop It You’re Killing Me, Lonely Cryin’ Only and Little Tongues First. Same goes for Knives, Bad Mother and Isolation but I’m especially talking about the first ones mentioned.

Anyone has a clue what in the fuck I am talking about?

There’s a G chord in all of them. (Just guessing). Hmmm? Give us a clue…is it lyric or music-wise?

Oh yeah, Mr Brain is back in town ;-)

The chorus is always repeated at the end of these songs, but that’s in others as well, so that will probably have nothing to do with what you’re talking about.

There’s a hate (love) feeling towards a certain person (female) in those songs, but again, I probably will be wrong here as well …

I’m so glad that my old friend Innocent X responded to this message. I’m not gonna give the so-called ‘answer’ yet. Speaking of clues, let’s just say that the connection has got nothing to with either the lyrics or the music. I hope more people are going to take a guess, cheers,

if there’s no music and no lyrics connection,
well, where the fuck is the connection?
maybe when, where or how those songs were composed?

And that’s just a clue to half of the ‘solution’, otherwise it would be too easy.

It are all songs Therapy? (like to) play live, but are not on the ‘So Much For The Ten Year Plan’ retrospective?

P.S. You can also turn it around. Nausea is on the comp. and hasn’t been played live frequently also.

Three cheers for our administrator. And speaking of teethgrinders, my brand new sparkling girlfriend actually grinds her teeth in her sleep, so don’t guess how I call here.

P.S. During the 10 Year Plan tour I for one was hugely surprised our favorite Irish noisenicks played the mentioned songs (and now even Opal Mantra makes a spectaclular return). I for one thought they were only gonna play songs of the retrospective and after the tour never play some of ‘em ever again (Nowhere, even Screamager and Die Laughing). Anyway, personally I think the songs should have been on the compilation and the way they picked the songs sounds a bit strange if they’re enjoy playing the ones that didn’t make it live (also Disgracelands, for instance). Even the so-called theme-tune ‘Ten Year Plan’ was played very regularly during the tour. Anyway, my P.S. is longer than the message so let’s leave it to this.

Yeah, they played Nausea a couple of times OUTSIDE the Benelux, I know. I actually e-mailed the boys that they hadn’t played the song in The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg since 1995, in other words more than 25 gigs without it. Andy replied to the message saying it wasn’t deliberate and he gave me 3 tips how to get them to play the song in Holland when they return. It’s very easy, actually, I’m just not really the request-kinda-guy, that’s a cool new word by the way, cheers,

I was surprised that Opal Mantra wasn’t included on the best-of. Instead, Straight life was put on it, sure, it’s one of the best songs on semi-detached, but it wasn’t a single or regular part of the live sets, not even in 1998 according to suicidepact.com. And what about Trigger inside? I think that fits too in the listed songs above. But as Turn or Isolation it wasn’t probably included because the focus would have been too much on Troublegum I guess.

Michael wrote:

Yeah, I think they didn’t want to make it a Greatest Hits album, because it would be Troublegum and Infernal Love combined. That’s probably the reason why they called it Retrospective instead of Greatest Hits (or Best Of), since it’s supposed to be an overview of 10 years of Therapy?, not the best of Therapy?. All in all, I think they chose good tracks from each album, although I too think Opal Mantra should have been included.

i remember reading somwhere micheal said they didnt like the phrase ‘greatest hits’. so they called it a retrospective. To me this sugests it was meant to be more of a cross section of their songs and styles. rather than songs that were big hits. although i would rather have had black eye, purple sky than straight life. but you cant have everything can you.
