Hmm, that’s a hard one, with so many great films out there. But I’ll give it a shot:

The Matrix
The Exorcist
Die Hard With A Vengeance
Rocky I & II (I count them as 1)
Silence Of The Lambs

Other great films are Seven, The Shawshank Redemption, Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls, Don’t Be A Menace (a parody on film like Boyz ‘n The Hood and Menace II Society, it’s hilarious!), Gone In 60 Seconds (with Nicolas Cage, haven’t seen the original), and so on, and so on… Guess I’m just a film-freak!

Ian, please tell me why you like ‘Being John Malkovich’. I’ve seen it before in many lists of top 10 movies (I think even on some from the Therapy? members). I’ve watch the movie 2 times and I really can’t figure out why people like it. I like John Malkovich a lot btw.

Its a true original iris noones seen anything like it before and wont again. Also the joke about the office being for dwarfs kept me in random fits of hysterics for 3 days. It was all getting a little embarrassing in the end and I always lost my job, people get paranoid if you keep chuckling.

Hey guess what as well shameless arrived this morning havent listened yet but soon as I finish work I’ll be checking it out.

Oh and so far my award (the award being my admiration)for film buff has to go to opal mantra they were some fine choices and the turkey award kinda like in the oscars has to go to Don vultz.

ostrich - american history x and saving private ryan are not good movies?…judging from your picks, you apparently don’t like movies with a message. it’s funny how people hate these movies because one was made by steven spielberg and the other is about skinheads. yes, i believe that if any director was given the trust and as much money as steven speilberg gets to make a movie becuse the movie company trusts that director to make a hit movie and gives that director whatever he needs, they would make hit movies also just like spielberg. personally the only spielberg movie i like is saving private ryan. people who said it’s not a good movie are fooling themselves or have no respect for what happened to those in the military who died for their countries during that or any other war. what was shown in that movie was the closest i’ve seen to what actually happened during that war. if you want to trash a bad war movie trash thin red line. choosing movies like life is beautiful and american beauty as your best movies is a joke in itself… american beauty was overated..the only thing that kept me watching it was kevin spacey’s character..keep on watching those fairy tale movies. i prefer to watch more realistic movies instead of sci fi and make believe crap that would never happen. and a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but fight club isn’t that great of a movie .. it was ok but nothing people make it out to be. just the concept makes people say ‘oooooooooh it’s so cool’ .. which is a joke. so like you said in your comment, i’ll have to say that considering you’re a wanker, i’ll let that go

my picks in in no particular order

seven, the crow, south park movie, half baked, dead poet’s society, taxi driver, wedding singer, full metal jacket, slc punk, jay and silent bob strike back, chasing amy, toxic avenger 1, crumb, saving private ryan, american history x, texas chainsaw massacre 1, massacre at central high, shawshank redemption, etc…

I found American History X also a good movie, but a movie as American Beauty was great to watch but there wasn’t really a story behind it (like AHX).
Why do you have the wedding singer in your list? It’s the same fairy tale movie…
Jay and Silent Bob rule… I’ve not seen there latest movie ‘cause it’s not in the cinema’s here in Holland (I’m also not sure if they get in it).

innocentx is right… american history x was an amazing, thought provoking movie… as was saving private ryan…

does it what where a movie was made or who made it? or does it matter if the movie is good? sure there are some directors i follow (Neil LaBute, Tom Tykwer, etc.) but even they can make bad movies, and even bad directors can make good movie… why? because it’s the movie that’s important, not where it’s from or who made it…

and yes, movies, like music, are a personal opinion… and to say you don’t like american history x or saving private ryan is up to you… saying they are cheese fests on the other hand is factually incorrect (especially since you have ‘life is beautiful’ on your list’)…

one problem i had with american history x was that i found it totally unreal. i don’t know, maybe nazis in america are like that.

i also wonder if anyone in say 20 years time can actually take that film seriously.. i think it will be very dated then, but only time will tell.

also, skinheads are not nazis, but we knew that already.

i never said skinheads were nazis. where did you get that from? you can’t say that they’re not influenced by it though ..have you noticed the swasticas, etc… that are identified to nazis. trust me american history x is a realistic movie..by far. it is in your country also. you just don’t know about it. they’re a small percentage. you’d be surprised how many people who don’t fit in any group fall for this brainwashing because they have so much hate and have no sense of belonging. i suggest you read articles and see videos documentating on skinheads. american history x is influenced by those documentories. nowadays skinheads look like you and me. they don’t shave their heads or wear combat boots or red suspenders anymore. they’re not so easily singled out as they used to be

and pretender. i thought wedding singer was realistic. what was so unrealistic about it? it’s funny, me and my girlfriend saw it and it seemed to be exactly like our lives were. i used to be a musician and she was a waitress at weddings at the time we saw it. plus, if there’s one character that can describe how i am in reality it’s the character adam sandler plays in that movie. whether you think that’s sad or not. the only non realistic movie i like is the crow. i thought wedding singer had it all, drama, comedy, etc… i enjoyed it. everyone has a sappy movie that they like that no one else likes. wedding singer is that sappy movie for me ad my girlfriend. well that and labyrinth. me and my girlriend watch those two movies the most together

something about skinheads:
what we usually call skinheads are the nazi-skinheads with the swasticas celtic crosses, etc…
but originally skinheads were an anti-racist movement; they listened to the first ska and punk bands and they were politically oriented at the opposite side of the nazi-skin.
here where i live there are many skinheads that are not nazi-skin.
i also saw some band made of skinheads. trust me they’re all but not nazis.

you have it the other way around. i’ve known skinheads…they’re no longer skinheads now. when they reached a certain age they realized that they were being brainwashed. they smartened up. i also met hippie skin heads… they just look like skinheads because they ‘like the look’ and then claim not to be racists. it’ a joke.they’re just posers looking for attention like goths wearing goth clothes..real skinheads are known to kick the asses out of them. you’re confusing the skinheads you’re talking about with punks (the music scene), although there are many skinhead racist band around. the whole skinhead thing originated in the military. in the military they make you wear the same clothes , shave your heads. you’re all supposed to be and look the same as much as pssible. no one is higher than anyone else. everyone is equal. during the war with germany..or when it ended, racists got obssessed with hitler and felt he was right abut killing jews, etc… to skinheads, hitler is like their god. and the mein keimf is their bible. the turner diaries is like their new bible. this book was actually also found in tim mcveigh’s car. it talks about doing exactly what happeed in the oklahoma city bombing.just read. also look at http://www.rotten.com/news/ … that page is basically of news articles that are interesting .. non of the articles are boring at all. all articles are true

Dearest innoscent x,
lets talk about movies…
Saving private ryan i did like i loved the war scenes at the beginning the most realistic I have seen in a movie but I didn’t like the way Mr spielberg had to turn it into a hollywood blockbuster with the most ridiculous war film ending in the history of film, and as for american history x it was a nice concept that slid by, by talking about how obscene alot of peoples views are about other races sure it shocks but it doesnt deliver. everyone whos ever had an independant thought knows racism is wrong and an ignorant answer to hate but that doesnt make it a good film because it states the obvious. It was once again a cheesy film and insulting to any free thinker who watched it!!!!
American beuty I liked, I know many didnt but I did for its originality, script and its spiritual ideas(I promise you I’m no hippy) And fight club maybe your right but I saw it recently so it sticks in my mind.
Anyway after these points you continued to state that I was a wanker because of my opinions which whilst it fails to insult me as im sure was what was intended it goes to show you for the man you are a mindless and thoughtless individual who spends his time insulting other to make himself feel better about himself, I dont understand you nor want too, but I pity you.

this time i didn’t say things to you to piss you off, it was just me being honest. did you know that 40 percent of the proceeds of saving private ryan went to veterans who served in past wars? you’re mad because it became a blockbuster. that’s funny. if it weren’t a big movie you’d say it was good, but because it was big you’re mad at spielberg because it’s seen as a blockbuster. what did you expect? it’s a spielberg movie. even when he makes crap, it will be a blockbuster. how did you expect to make a big movie like that without money? personally, i thought the ending to saving private ryan was an excellent one. from when tom hanks died and told private ryan to earn this to the satisfaction that spielberg got from making millions of this movie. he earned it for making saving private ryan. about american history x…the ending wasn’t all that great to that because they cut a lot of scenes out of the movie. got to a american history x webpage and you’ll see clips of most of the deleted parts. i find it funny that you call me a yank in your post and then get mad when i call you a wanker. by the way, i stopped trashing you peple a long time ago..i assure you if i were going to trash you in a post here it would be far more then calling you a wanker considering i can joke on you for a lot of things. but i’m not going to. i’ve grown old of the back and forth drones

innocent x, i never said that you said that skinhead were nazis. i just came with a fact. don’t get paranoid, not everyone is after you..

about the skinhead thing, i think it’s you who’s got it slightly wrong (although you will probably never admit it..). as penn wrote above, originally skinheads had NOTHING to do with nazism or racism, and true skinheads of today has nothing to do with nazism or racism either. i find that important to point out. just because nazis of today has ‘stolen’ some of the the skinhead’s original dress code doesn’t mean that skinheads are nazis..

and the whole skinhead thing did not originate from the military. skinhead culture emerged by the late 60’s in great britain out of the styles of white mods and black jamaican rudeboy gangs and as a reaction against hippy values. a second wave of skinheads in the late seventies and early eighties came out of the punk scene, although ska retained its skinhead fans.. true skinhead culture is about fighting for the working class pride, football, nonracism, brotherhood, oi, ska, beer.

american history x is not about skinheads.

what do people think of when someone mentions the word skinhead?…exactly. you believe what you want to believe. don’t read books…just go by what you know..you’ll go far. you’re confusing skinheads with retreatists in your definition of a skinhead. american history x consists of skinheads as we define them. saying that american history x has nothing to do with skinheads just voids everything you say.
