world cup pool, for teethgrinder.com folks

#

Started by mfgeorge

since we all love therapy?, and most of us love world cup, i figure we will therefore be talking about it over the next 2 months on this board… so i thought it would be fun for all of us (that want to) to start a world cup pool, to see who, out of all us therapy? fans, can boast as being the most knowledgeable about football/soccer…

the pool works as follows:
#1: you must pick the winner (or a draw) for each game… that’s it!

#2: the pool is run through yahoo, so if you have a yahoo id go to step 3… if you don’t have a yahoo id, use this link: http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_register?.src=spt&new=1& … from=LOGIN

#3: once you have an id, go to this link: http://games.fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/p and click the “join a private group” link
Group ID is: 17108
Group Password is: therapy

#4 IMPORTANT: you should name your team the same name that you use on this board, so that way we know who is who…

#5: make your picks for each group in the world cup… you can keep changing your picks up until the world cup starts… after the first round we’ll have to make picks from the remaining teams…

#6: sit back and watch the kid from Canada (that being me) kick all yours asses!!! :)
seriously though, this should be fun… i hope many of you join!

good luck!!! (you’re going to need it!)

i believe Canada has only been in the world cup once, and we didn’t even score a goal, so i don’t think you have as much to complain about…

but then again i’m used to it by now, so i still feel for you!

don’t think you can go any further than that for the moment. you’ve got to wait till the first round is finished; then you will have to fill in your picks for the 2nd stage.

right now there are 11 of us joined up. not bad!

Opal Mantra, you haven’t made all your picks yet, so make sure you login and do that before it all starts! Also, there are a few of you that haven’t made you Tiebreaker picks…

also, i’ve attached a really funny doc. on different tatics for world cup teams… the belgium one is great! :)

cheers!

I hope none of you selected France, England, and Argentina in the top 4, since that’s impossible. I noticed in a newspaper that some people had them all three in their top 3, but only one of them can make it to the semi-finals I think. My money’s still on Argentina btw, especially after yesterday’s upset!

about the referee:
the penalty was invented.
a foul for every time ronaldo fell without being touched.

about the players:
emre and basturk are really good players.
denilson is pure fun.
roberto carlos and cafu are aliens.

ok, the penalty wasn’t real. But i think Brazil deserved to win, they played better. Turkey has a very strong team, with a bit of luck they will do very well.

Turkey was just as good as Brasil and Rivaldo should have been the one with a red card for making such a theater…

I think Turkey deserved a draw. They played really well, and the foul was made outside the box, so it wasn’t a penalty. And yes, Rivaldo should be punished, I really hate players feigning injuries.
By the way, after seeing most favourites play, Argentina and Italy impressed me the most. Italy doesn’t have the most difficult draw and seems to be in good form, so they should be able to reach the final, but Argentina is still my favourite to win the title!

Go Ireland go!!! Despite being eliminated by them, they have my support! By the way, I can’t believe Holland was defeated by Portugal, yesterday they played disastrous against the U.S. Normally, I wouldn’t care that much, but I’m living with 4 Americans in one house, and they can get pretty annoying, especially when they start bitching about how Holland didn’t qualify! Too bad Denmark tied against Senegal, the ref was (again) horrible!
So far, the World Cup has been a bit disappointing, not many exiting matches. I enjoyed watching the ‘Fighting Irish’ though, and it was funny to see some Dutch flags in the crowd when South Korea was playing!

Just watched a bit of the Uruguay v France game.
Very theatrical diving by the South Americans.
Not as good as that Brazilian guy pretending to be smacked in the face though. Rivaldo?

Argentina tomorrow. Woohoo!!

Worst team colours so far?…Belgium. Girl Pink I think it’s called, or is it Very Faded Red.

What an idiot for referee!!!!!!!

He “stole” one goal from us because he thought Tomasson touched the ball with his hand, which he didn’t!!! If he hadn’t made that mistake, we would already be sure to advance to the next round!!!!
At least France didn’t beat Uruguay so we still have a chance.

As a Turk, I’m proud of my country’s team. I believe we were better than Brasil. While I was watching the match, I saw the death of a dream team (Brasil). Who’ll stop that boring defensive football playing?

i don’t think the referee in senegal vs denmark was so bad…

he didn’t steal one goal because he stopped the action before it. that’s why tomasson got the yellow card, isn’t it?
senegal played a really good football in the second half, and deserved the draw.
i hope that both them and denmark will qualify.

the referee didn’t stop the action before, but after the goal, and Tomasson got the card because he complained about it afterwards.

But the main problem was really that the referee didn’t do anything to stop things when it got to violent. One of the danish players was kicked by a player who was laying down, and the referee didn’t react. And another (Helveg) was punched in the face which led to him loosing part of a tooth. That’s not soccer - that’s Tyson…

I admit Senegal played better than Denmark in the second half, and deserved their goal. I definately think they’ll beat Uruguay and move to the next round.
