You Know What I Hate?

#

Sounding off here…

I HATE people who get into a little clique to exclude others, ‘cos it makes them feel better about themselves. I HATE people who think they’re experts. I HATE people who dismiss newcomers because “they don’t know anything”. I HATE people who pretend that they’re best friends with the band.

You’ve met them.

I LOVE Therapy?

Tim.

Easy there my friend, us T? freaks are pretty open-minded and friendly in general, you know, and that’s based on my own experience!

Morning.

Little cliques are what Kurt Vonegut Jr called ‘Grandfalloons’, the pointless, meaningless groups and societies that people proudly proclaim themselves to be part of, like the Masons, or the USA. I don’t think anyone here is that bad, and i think i must be pretty lucky because i’ve never met anyone as bad as that. I like talking to people who know more than me, because what the hell is the point of talking to anyone who doesn’t, unless you’re planning to pass on your knowledge to them. I think you’re confusing ‘Expert’ with ‘Show-off’.

I agree with the love doctor.

Title: …but I Love You Guys (of course)

Hi

Thanks for your feedback. Must admit that, being an emotive person, I like to throw emotive subjects “into the ring”. Sorry if I caused anyone any grief. But, hey, if you’re not emotional, you not alive. Thanks for your patience.

You must know what I mean about “little cliques”, though. But perhaps the only ones who moan about them are the ones who aren’t involved. I’m proud to have been a fan since 1994, and am sorry that I can’t say I was a fan before, simply because I hadn’t heard of Therapy? before. “Nowhere” was the track that got me involved. I’m sure a lot of you guys can say the same.

I could write for ages… but perhaps on a different “heading”.

Take care,

Tim.

Dear Tim,

i can really understand what you’re talking about here, but you must keep in mind that many of the people in here actually are friends. They live in the same country, they visit T? concerts together (there was also a T? fan meeting organized some time ago), they trade T? stuff with each other and so on. Some people in here are indeed experts (for example when i have a discography related question i always ask Alan ‘cause he knows more than i do). Now, concerning the ‘dismiss newcomers’ thing, i ‘ve never seen that happen. All of us were newcomers at some point, right? The only thing i’ve seen is that everybody is quick to dismiss anyone who dares to say a negative opinion about T? and will think that you’re not a real T? fan. As if T? are gods and have made no mistakes. And if someone wants to pretend he/she is a best fan with the band, i couldn’t care less, it’s their problem.
Ofcourse it is really irritating sometimes for me too when for example some people start a conversation in Dutch or in German, because this is supposed to be an international T? related messageboard.

Well, we’re quite friendly here…who’s bugging you?
Everyone’s welcome here. We respect each other.
And now and then some asshole comes in and tries to stir things up. :D.

I guess you don’t have to feel best friends with the band, as when they do email you personally, it feels really good, as it is directed to you as an individual, rather than just a mailing list.
I haven’t been a member for that long, but there are lots of people on here from different cultures, all sharing T? and that is cool, must admit though, I get a little jealous, as T? seem to play the continent more than the UK.

Hi to one specific person: Opalmantra.

You said “And now and then some asshole comes in and tries to stir things up”.

I take it you are calling me an asshole.

My friend, a little maturity will help you in the future; perhaps a little objectiveness? Don’t close your mind to alternative viewpoints or discussion, after all that’s what makes an interesting forum.

I don’t want to fight, but subjective insults aren’t helpful in this medium.

Let’s hope we can get on a better foot next time.

Best wishes,

Tim.
