Support Bands

It’s probably been done before, but who was the best band that you’ve seen support T? and do you prefer it when bands are more varied (such as when they toured with Kerbdog and Credit To The Nation), or when it’s a whole evening of heads-down moshing.

Personally, I’d go for the variety…

I haven’t seen many different support bands, the ones that I’ve seen were End of April, Defenastration, and One in a Million. I didn’t like End of April and Defenastration, but I quite liked One in a Million, I have two demo cds of them. They sound a bit poppy, but they’re not bad at all.

Most bands I’ve seen supporting Therapy? have been shit, in my opinion, with one glaring exception:

Pet Lamb supporting at the Dublin fan club show in April 1996. They were amazing and actually blew a circuit in one of Therapy?s speakers cos they were just so pummellingly (is that even a word?!) loud!

I went out and got their album after that and I’ve been a major fan since. Best Therapy? performance I’ve seen too, by the way. Probably cos the venue was tiny and it was packed with about 80 people there.

All in all, the best gig I’ve ever been to.

Hmm, End of April, are they a Dutch band?
They will play at my ‘jongerencentrum’ december 14.
Downloaded a mp3 and think they sound quite okay.

i thought clutch were pretty good when i seen them support t? in the olympia in dublin , but the band who supported them in the mandela hall in belfast were absolutley tragic , i felt embaressed for them i just wanted to get up and give them a big hug and send them off to their beds

I missed Clutch at that Olympia gig, dammit. I’d guess you’re talking about Defenestration (or something) at the Mandella Hall? Metal band with a bird on vocals? They played at the Ambassador a few nights after it, and they were shocking! I didn’t want to give them hugs though… a kick in the snatch more like it.

Yeah, shocking is the right word, I couldn’t believe my ears!
I’m not sure if End of April is Dutch. It could well be, cos Therapy? usually has local bands to support them. Defenastration supported them on many gigs (whole European tour?), so they’re an exception.

yep, Demenstruation (fenstration) they be the ones ,pretty goddamn terrible, but i dont think a boot in the doot would have helped matters much!
Maybe some gaffer tape and a large stick?

A boot in the doot? Seems a little harsh, althoguh I do admit she did make a racket and seemed to take making devil horns a little too seriously.

And how rude is ‘doot’ - where does it come (so to speak) on the crudeness scale?

Quite liked Credit to the Nation but not so impressed with Kerbdog (renamed Dogturd by my sister). Saw Understand (rubbish) and Vent 414 (hoped for something like the Wonderstuff, and was a bit disappointed) next couple of times, then some unmemorable band for the Semi detatched tour. Groop Dogdrill were good after that, and so was a band called Nerve, but I can’t remember if they supported T? or someone else. Wasn’t impressed with Dog Toffee last time I saw T? though.

How come no one has mentioned Schtum?! Bloody fantastic band - them and Skunk Anansie supporting in ‘95 was the best. I don’t really remember Kerbdog so I’ll assume I didn’t rate them that highly and Credit to the Nation were truly hilarious…I got to “high-five” one of them, how proud am I?

I don’t remember their name but they were supporting in the UK on the shameless tour along with defenestration, and my mate got pulled out of the crowd to sing F.O.A.D

Apparently a band called Dog Toffee supported them in 2000 and Andy does backing vocals on one of their tracks (Radio) - anyone heard this?

I saw Dog Toffee supporting the T? up in the wilderness known as Whitehaven! They were quite good ( we were expecting them to be shite, but were pleasantly surprised! )

By far and away for me though..the best support was Cop Shoot Cop, a truly awesome band, and when playing live they were just top notch!

The worst support was a toss up between Dig and co.uk. I saw Dig support the Rollins band at Manchester a bit earlier that year ( think it was 94/ 95 ) and they bored me to horrible tears, so when they were announced as the support to T? I was gutted! Co.uk were just a bit lame, we soon drifted off to the bar ( and we weren’t the only ones ).

Credit to the Nation were great, they really knew how to work a crowd, Kerbdog were ok, but didn’t really leave a lasting impression.

As for Schtum, never saw them live. They put out some good singles and there was a bit of a buzz about them at first, but then they released that rather lacklustre debut album and it all went a bit pear shaped..whatever happened to them anyway?

I saw the Yo-Yo’s and Clutch support T? at Wolves some years ago. Yo_yo’s were not bad I thought. Lively and obviously enjoyed it.
Clutch are a bit too shouty for me.

I saw Defenestration support Megadeth last year.
Oh my god!!
I don’t know if anyone knows this, but defenestration means “to throw something out of a window”. I wish.
As in “If this band don’t get off the stage soon, I will defenestrate them.”
I didn’t like them at all.

ARGH! Why was I not at this gig? I love Cop Shoot Cop, when was it? I am hoping before I was born so I have an excuse for not being there.

Schtum…I don’t know what happened to Schtum but they were really nice blokes and let me hang around with them when I was too scared to talk to T?

Title: The might C$C

It was around Dec 93 if I recall correctly. Go to their site and you can download a load of goodies, there’s a few live MP3’s and a couple of unreleased tracks from the last never finished or released album, which became the red expendables album ( what the band became when C$C went belly up ).

Alternatively, if you want I’ll burn some stuff off on cd-r and post them to you.

Hey Dano

My computer is as slow as a bastard so I’d really appreciate a cd-r. I can’t get your email off the site so can you mail me? hoochalobster@hotmail.com

Cheers :D
