Fire fighters strike

#

Started by Karl

What is everyone’s thought on the fire fighters strike?

I’m not sure, I think they deserve a pay rise, but 40%?. I was thinking if the government don’t fork out, we’ll end up paying for it in council tax, so whatever pay rises we get at Christmas, if we do get any, will go straight to the fire fighters.

I don’t see how anyone can justify 40% - its unaffordable (would love to see my bosses face if I asked for that!) and seems greedy when they refuse to renegotiate working conditions. And whilst I do agree that they do a valuable and life-threatening job, it’s hard to see why they should get such a big payrise when there’s so many people willing to do the job at the current pay levels.

I think both the government and the FBU have been rather foolish and have put themselves into positions where neither can afford to back down, which means that this could gone on for ages, and damage both of them.

I agree that they should get a pay rise but not 40%, enough to bring them in line with the NHS and police

No no no this is a serious matter!

Do you think we can borrow their stations and slide down the poles whilst they’re not using them?

Fireman’s pole is not meant as a euphemism!

;)

40% is fuckin’ rediculous.
Far too much for rescueing cute kitties out of trees and holdind a firehose. :D

I have to work 20 years to get 40%. (at least).
Have they been so badly paid over there?
This is not a strike anymore, but more like blackmailing.

I just KNEW somebody was gonna say that.
And I knew you’d be the first. Hahaha.
Do you know it takes two to hold such a big hose?

40% in one go seems a lot to me. Maybe over a period of time. 5 years or so, so they can catch up with teachers etc.
Let the Army use the DENNIS’s too.

I’m glad everyone seems to agree. It was only after I sent the thread, I thought shit, I hope I haven’t touched a raw nerve with people. But I don’t think the public support the fire fighters as much as they think they do.
What pissed me off, was an interview at the weekend, with a fire fighter, who said he just wanted a decent wage to look after his family, and send his kids to school, who doesn’t mate?

Yes. But what is decent. I have no clue what they make right this very moment. But if they ask 40%, that’ll be not much.
But I do think the public sector of policemen, firemen should be in the same wage factor. As long with nurses etc…
It’s important. I don’t see why ALL firemen striked…did they really do this? Always keep a backup for emergancies.

I to think the public sector should be on the same wages, as nurses always seem to have a raw dael here in the UK.

For the firemen, our current back up is the army, and that is who is fighting the fires now. I believe a soldier risks his life a lot also, they are currently fighting fires in the UK, when we are on a high state of alert with the middle east, and they could end up going to war in a couple of weeks.

I think we should take the money out of Davina McCall’s wages and give it to the firemen and nurses. On a related thought, while the firemen are on strike, i think now would be a perfect time to set the Big Brother house on fire.

Not really. They rescue kittens out of trees. :D
And when there aren’t any people involved, it’s not that much of an emergeny…know what I mean? (unless when the thing might explode or fire spreads)

I don’t know how much public support they have, but everytime it is on the news, people seem to be beeping their horns in support, or could this be that they can’t be arsed shouting fuck off? I dunno!

Not that I’m cynical, but I suspect that, outside the other unions, people are getting fed up and there’s a certain amount of journalistic license going on with what’s shown on TV.

That said, Tony’s a turd, so am not too upset with anti-Labour journalism (shame we have no sensible alternative to Labour at the mo’).
