Nufan

I have been listening to an MP3 cover of Fairytale of New York by No Use For A Name, and I’m toying with the idea of buying a CD by them. Just wondered what everyones thoughts are on NUFAN?

They’ve got some good stuff and some less good stuff in my opinion.

I think that Making Friends is a fantastic record, absolutely cracking. More Betterness! is also a very good album but less… well, punk, I guess. That’s got the Fairytale of New York cover on it. It’s also got a version of a song called Coming Too Close on there, but it’s a slower and less exciting version than appears on one of the Fat Wreck compilation CDs.

The latest one (just come out) is not bad, somewhere between Making Friends and More Betterness! in terms of punkiness.

The earlier ones I have listened to much less so couldn’t properly comment on them.

I have seen them live three times, I think… and it’s a strange experience. They really attract the pit kids who are there for a fight and yet, somehow, their music, to me, doesn’t really inspire that… a most unusual and bruising sight :-)

To sum up, buy Making Friends or More Betterness!.

Nice one Alex, I’ll bear all that it mind. I think they are supporting SUM41, but I don’t fancy watching them and a stupid inflated price at an arena, hopefully NUFAN will tour after that, think I will keep away from the pit though.

Are they really? Brilliant, already got Sum41 tickets, so I guess I’ll see them there.

1/4 We doing a tour with Sum 41 in February, checkback for dates and cities soon.

Alex, this is straight off the above website, so hopefully it includes the UK leg. No plans for gigs for me at the moment:( I have tickets on row 2 of the empire in Liverpool to watch Peter Kay in March, so I’m looking forward to that.
You will have to let me know what NUFAN were like supporting SUM

I saw them a couple of years back at… er.. Brixton or the Astoria, whichever. And they were bad - not much playign of songs, too much messing around, I dunno… And I would never have gone to see them again — but then I saw them by chance at Reading Festival and they put on a blinding performance, so we thought, what the hell, give them another chance. Maybe with more material to play now, it will be a better gig.

Must admit, I don’t know a lot about Sum41 except Fat Lip, we do have the CD though. Does that type of music seem the fashion now? like Busted? ooooooh, kiddy pop!!!
I remember in the last probably 18months I seen adverts for Sum41, with venues in Manchester constantly increasing from The Academy, The Apollo and now the arena, do you think they will fill it, as it is massive, I have watched Green Day and The Offspring there, and even though it is packed, there are still plenty of seats up in the gods.
At least it will be on a big Ice Rink for the fighting mosh pit of NUFAN.
