I have seen the original Japanese version (‘Ringu’), after reading that it was ‘the scariest movie ever’. I don’t know about the Hollywood remake, but the Japanese version was a joke, not scary at all! I don’t think I’ll go and see the American version.

Really? I saw the Japanese version too, and thought that it was pretty good when compared to most horror films, and am quite looking forward to seeing US version (though that may have something to do with Naomi Watts). But has any horror film ever really scare anyone? I mean, since they grew up, I saw poltergeist at 15 and had the jitters for the rest of the day.

I think horror’s that work on the (sub) conscious level are more scary than the usual splatter-fest of traditional horror’s.

The likes of Sixth Sense scared me shitless! Maybe the fact I was puffing the magic dragon had something to do with it. But still, it was a great scary flick.

The Exorcist, not the average gore-fest horror movie, but it’s by far the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, after three of four times, it’s still a disturbing film!

i saw the ring about 4 months ago and it was pretty crappy… in the theatre with a bunch of people it’s not scary at all, although i guess if you rented it and watched it late at night by yourself with all the lights off deep in the middle of nowhere it might be scary…

the scarest movie is by far the blair witch project…

blair witch project scared the shit out of me, cos i was stoned the first time i saw it. but it’s lame as hell with a clear head.
the most scary horror movie to me is pet semetary. the movie sucks the whole time, but the end with the little kid always gives me the creeps.

what about real disgusting horror movies? the only horror movie i just could stand watching was the dentist. in mouth camera, yuk!

Did you just see it with me? Couldn’t believe it when, after hearing the Nokia tune go off, a voice went ‘I’m in the cinema just now’. Miserable selfish sod!

If you didn’t like the original, you probably won’t like the remake, but I thought it was quite good - no small part due to Naomi Watts who is very tasty.

Okay then, the gym I go to does free rentals - have Black Hawk Down for tonight, what should it be next time?

N.B. Coming back to a dark, empty house afterwards was a bit spooky!

Yeah - I agree. There was a good sense of menace in the movie without it ever shocking you. It constantly made you think. it reminded me of the novel of the Shining

Black Hawk Down was kinda disappointing as well I thought, I saw it last Sunday. I expected it to be different and, well, better… Same for Donnie Darko.
Whenever movies have good reviews, I tend to dislike them, and vice versa. Oh well, at least I have a taste of my own, that’s for sure!

certainly agree with that. the kind of movie i call disturbing. ‘the 6th sense’, ‘the blair witch’ and years ago, ‘alien’, ‘duel’..i’m sure there’s some more but i can only think of those right now.

i’ve recently seen ‘final destination 2’. the first one was quite good too. say, never watch it before going on an airplane..

Had you already seen the remake? THough the remake was pretty good. but already knew the story from when the original was on Ch4, whichtook the edge off somewhat. Naomi Watts, though, AND she#s currently all over the Underground

I saw about 1/2 the original first but had missed the beginning and was entirely baffled so gave up. Regarding the remake, I’d say exactly what WP did about the original - an alright film but really not scary at all.

Dog Soldiers is great! I quite liked the Ring re-make, but it kind of veers more into MTV quirk than any real horror.

We watched Phone Booth the other night, wasn’t really expecting that much from it but it really draws you in as the film goes on.

Its a good film, bit short but if it was any longer it would have just gotten boring

Phone Booth is Joel Shumachers best film since Falling Down.

Strange sense of humour too.

By the way I saw the Blair Witch project in the woods with some friends and beamer which was really scary… Afterwards we went for a walk and somebody put some of those twigs in our car.
