Never heard of it, seems to be a kind of “raw version” directly from a studio or so…

It may be something like a master for CDs or MCs.

yeah me thinks its a master copy, but why has it got some other label on it. I wouldn’t buy it all the same, he’s only got a ratting of one.

Yeah an acetate is kinda the original that they make the CD’s from. They are pretty collectable. I’ve seen Therapy? acetates for £80 on eil.com.

I think its a pretty cool item!

Acetates are what vinyl pressings are taken from, like a master tape but for vinyl.

I won the bidding, but the reserve wasn’t met, so I doubt I’m getting it… ah well!

A lot of times the acetate copies are unmixed or have alternate parts/takes, so it makes them pretty cool to own. I have an acetate copy of System of a Down’s first album and 3 songs have different parts, the tracklisting is different and one song is missing, plus another is on this version but wasn’t released on the domestic version.

So, they are cool to have, but not if they’re exactly the same as the official release because it’s more or less just a CDR.

Acatetes with different tracklistings aren’t masters.
Such acatates are promo ones, so they could have differet tracklist, different cover and so on.

i thought acetates were very limited (pre) promo copies sort of.. just a few copies made, to see how it comes out on vinyl and some are given to selected people (dj’s, record company ppl and so on). but i could be wrong. i doubt they master a cd from an acetate though.. i have a few drum’n’bass acetates and they are generally much heavier than regular vinyls, and they only lasts for about 25 or so listenings.. then they are worn out

Yeah, there are very few made. Usually less than 10, so I’ve been told.

Less than 25 listens?? Shit, I don’t know if that’s true, but I guess I won’t be playing my System CD much in the future! Hehehe…
