What’s to be expected of the new album?

I really like Therapy? and living in Belgium I saw them perform 11 times now. It’s not that I dislike their latest albums, but I prefer the Therapy? albums such as Troublegum and Semi-Detached. This is where Therapy? scores the best, everybody’s going crazy during live performances, during listening the cd at home… The latest albums are more hardcore and not so easy listening as before. Working with the producer of Troublegum and Semi-Detached made me feel happy, also as Therapy? promised to release the best Therapy? album so far… but as I listen to “Hey Satan, You Rock” on http://www.spitfirerecords.com/Therapy.htm I fear the worst. Yet another hard, non-therapy? album. So sad… There is no more drumming like Fyfe or Graham, there is no more guitar sound like in troublegum, there is no more fun in it, just straight rock… Shouldn’t Andy and co. realise that their fans keep following their work because they keep waiting for another troublegum, but get dissapointed time after time… I did not hear the other songs yet, but if they seem to be like “Hey Satan, you rock”, Therapy? loses a Belgian fan, and I will not be the first, neither the last…
Come on Therapy?, surprise us, with the greatest album ever, a real therapy? one, we keep hoping, but hope floats…

Everybody is not waiting for Troublegum II. I’m pretty sure that I really like the forthcoming album and really hope that it isn’t Troublegum part two. I’m not trying to kiss anybody’s butt but I have loved EVERY album they’ve done just simply because they are so different compairing to another. Well that’s what keeps me interested in Therapy? for 11 years. They are not predictible… Some how that Satan-song’s drumming kind of sounded like Fyfe’s drumming, especially bass-drum.

Honestly, Troublegum is the album that I least listen to. I think I put it on once in the last 3/4 years. The album I listen to most is Babyteeth, followed by Shameless.

That’s not me bullshitting anyone, it’s the truth. I don’t want Troublegum part 2, I think most of the fans who want that have stopped listening to Therapy? anyway. The fans who are left (most of them!) keep listening to the band ‘cos every album is different.

It’s no surprise that the 2 albums I listen to most, is the first and last records they’ve released. Change is good - look what’s happened to Green Day. They’ve gone stale ‘cos every album sounded the same.

cairnz, while i respect your opinion, i don’t think it speaks for everyone… while i don’t think ‘hey satan’ is that great either, ‘suicide pact-you first’ is my fav. t? album, followed closely by nurse… in other words, doing another troublegum or semi-detached is not my top choice for musical directions i wish t? to follow… sure i didn’t care for the last album all the much, and who knows what this one will sound like… i don’t think we can judge it from one song… it would be like judging infernal love by diane, or semi-detached by tramline…

so i suggest to hold on and wait for the album… and if you don’t like it as much as the others, that’s ok, because when a band makes every album sounding different the chances are you’re not going to like every one of them… but that doesn’t mean you need to give up faith, it just means you wait ‘til the next one…

cheers!

Hello Cairnz! Fine to meet you, but sorry i am not really agree with you!
For example shameless wasn’t a sad album! Indeed “gimme gimme gimme back my brain” smelt “Beers and punk rock attitude”!!! This is fucking rock and fine, isn’t it!
It is true that “Suicide pact” was more dark and strange, but i loves it! Therapy is not a “one style band”! They are rock, punk, metal, pop, noisy…and good for that!
You see, in my opinion, semi detached suprised me when i listenned to it the first times : So much poppy. Nevertheless i really loves this album!
I would like to know what is your opinion on “nurse” and “caucasian psychosis”. These albums, like suicide pact, are not a punk rock album. They are more hardcore (Animals Bones, accelerator…), more noisy (Dancin’ with manson, nausea, zipless…), “dirter”!! The “Big Black“‘s offspring!!! Greaaatttt!!!!

Excuse for english…i’m french!

I don’t think it’s OK saying about the album after listening only one track. If you could listen to the rest you could say something different.

I’ve heard 2 tracks from new album (Satan, and If it kills me (live)). I think it will be one of the greatest records this year. I really liked the sound in Satan, and If it kills me has one of the greatest melodies I’ve heard for long time. Ofcourse we all have our own opinions, and I try to respect other opinions that aren’t exactly like mine.

I can’t even remember when was the last time I waited any album this much! Maybe last years Danzig 777…

hosting stuff.. like alex’s suicidepact
site.. and what’s his name who never answers my mail but has 140 megs of
mp3s on my machine.. brainsawwww

Am really looking forward to the new album, but probably would be even if I hadn’t liked ‘Hey Satan’ (cheery-pop!) and ‘If It Kills Me’ which I can’t wait ti hear live (as opposed to a live recording…).

It’ll sound like T? whatever, because of the basslines and Andy’s vocals, which is good, but it shouldn’t sound like the other albums, because, having got them, there’d be no point buying the new one.

Change is good thing.

And I think it´s useless to hope for another Pop-Rock-Album like Troublegum or Infernal Love. Therapy? have changed a lot concerning their sounding and will go on doing so, and for me that´s just fantastic!

Well, my favourite album is SP-YF: Great and inspired Noise-Rock!

Some of you talk about a great album (read: high anxiety)but the album is unfortunately still not released in Belgium. Is it anywhere else yet released? I’m gonna buy it anyway, even as it rocks as hard as SP-YF. But as said by some of you, it’s a matter of taste, and everyone’s taste is different. And that’s good. So thanx for your replies and maybe we meet at a T? concert, who knows… hope to see them perform at Rock Werchter, let’s hope…

Wicked Man admittedly started and ended slowly, but the middle bit really rocked (although I can’t make out the words of the secind verse), in joi-de-vivre (?) kind of way which made ‘one’ wind down the car windows and frighten people at traffic lights with one’s singing. Possibly.

We have to remember that the recipe for the new T? album has changed yet again, with a new Drummer etc. I heard loads of demos for shameless and ‘This Ones for You’ was the best one I heard, and I heard that at Camden town Live. When I got the album I thought it was well over produced and it was well to laid back for T? + the best songs were still ‘This Ones for You’ plus ‘Stalk and Slash’ with the others being avarage. That was a major suprise for me cause there wasn’t ever much I didn’t like by T? before, er when I think about it there was nothing.

I’ve heard two songs from the new album and I reckon that they both sound great. They’re sharp, catchy and most importantly they make me wanna headbang. Even if the album don’t stand the hype, when they come to a town near you they’re gonna blow your socks off…

You’re abso-diddly-lutely right about This One’s For You, it’s overproduced on Shameless, it could’ve been much better!

to be honest, i dont cite troublegum as T?’s best album. any pre ‘94 release will do for me. but i will agree that the late releases do not sound like T? at all. and i can relate to
SPYF and the two tracks off the retrospective because the sound is different but the attitude and edge is still there. what i can’t relate to is half of the shameless album where T? sound like a third division Turbo Negro or Ramones wannabe band. hey satan you rock must be one of the worst T? songs ever and if it is supposed to be one of the highlights of the new album then i am afraid that T? and me will have to part ways.

have to agree here am afraid, am not impressed at all by hey satan you rock. i kept thinking i was just getting a shitty download of it but no, i appear to have the real thing. reminded me strongly of gimme back my brain - punked up riffing with comedy lyrics.

its the comedy aspect that worries me the most - in the past what i’ve loved about T? is that they tackled serious issues but always maintained a black sense of humour (who else could wite a lyric like “masturbation saved my life” and still have the song taken seriously?), whereas on shameless there was too much humour and not really enough substance, though overall the album was still great.

i still have high hopes for the album but that song hasn’t reassured me…
