Was bored and had a look at the members list.

I’m currently in 6th place - Is it enough for a UEFA Cup place?

Or will Rene Teethgrinder’s recent fine run of form overtake me, and leave me to consolidate in mid-table mediocrity? :-)

Sorry, bit of football jargon there!

:-)

Title: Battle Of Britain

I think I’ll have to go to the “test-Section” to qualify for the Intertoto-Cup…

By the way, what about the Battle Of Britain tonight? Who’s gonna win? They’ll broadcast it live on German television and I hope (I think I know) that the Bhoys are going to make it a 2:2-draw which brings them to the semi-finals!

Cheers,
the 1860-lad

I dunno, everyone in Ireland is a Celtic supporter as well as supporting an English club.

Since I was young, I’ve supported both Liverpool AND Celtic. But lately I’ve thought ‘why bother supporting Celtic - the Scottish league is rubbish!’ So, I’m Liverpool all the way!

The whole thing of supporting Celtic and an English club is really ironic and stupid I think - Irish people love Celtic ‘cos of the Catholic connection (everyone DESPISES Rangers ‘cos of their Protestant connection), but then the same people will shout for Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal etc… who are, of course, English clubs founded and run by Protestants.

That’s why it’s so stupid and why I’m following Liverpool tonight.

3-1 to the Reds!! :-)

To be honest, I don’t give a fuck about Celtic either. To me, both of the big Scottish clubs represent a side of football that I do not like and don’t want to accept. This commercial development of football sucks big time, doesn’t it? Where’s the identification with your club, with your team?

You see, some years ago, there used to be 17 players from Southern Germany in the 22 players squad of 1860 Munich, which is my club. Today, there are 3 Bavarian players in a squad of 25. Two of them (Hofmann, Görlitz) hardly ever play and one (Lauth) comes from the 1860-youth and reserve side. He was even capped for the first time some weeks ago.

There are so many average foreign (and non-Bavarian) players in the squad that could easily be replaced by young and talented players from the Munich area.
There are 4 Austrians (Weissenberger, Stranzl, Pürk, Cerny), 2 Czechs (Votava, Tyce) 1 Australian (Agostino), 1 Bulgarian (Borimirov), 2 Brazilians (Costa, Rafael), 1 Swiss (Meyer) and 1 Chinese (Shao) player which makes it quite hard to identify with the team, doesn’t it?

To sum it up:

GIMME BACK MY FOOTBALL!!!

The reason so many people in Ireland support Liverpool and Man United is because of the large number of Irish immigrants that settled in those two industrial cities at around the time the two clubs were founded and the number of Irish players that played for the two teams over the years. There are many other Irish connections (Liverpool fans singing ‘the fields’, the fact that when United were called Newton Heath they were narrowly defeated in a vote by the owners to change their name to Manchester Celtic - in fact, they played one friendly under that name).

The bigotry, the side of football you won’t accept - while of course waving ETA / PLO flags or wearing sashes to games is just mindless bigotry, you can’t control the fan’s behaviour too much - but its Rangers the CLUB who have orange away tops and wouldn’t allow Catholics to play until the mid 1980s, whereas some of Celtic’s greatest ever players were Protestants (Kenny Dalglish, for example). Rangers are a riches to riches story, but Celtic were established and always will be a rags to riches charity club.

Incidently, I think if the Old Firm moved down to England a lot of the bigotry would tone down when the fans see that the rest of the civilised world has moved on a bit, and the fact they’d have a common enemy that hates ‘em both - the English! ;)

Celtic are the greatest club in the world and we kicked yer ****** *** on Thursday night! Bring on Lazio!

(note: the above should be served with a large pinch of salt in some areas!)
