Sunshine

So I read somewhere that the original master for Troublegum had a very violent hidden track after a gap on Brainsaw, which was then replaced for the sake of listener’s nerves with You Are My Sunshine.

Anyone know anything about this?

Alex, where did you read that?

I don’t know anything about it, but I bet it was loaded with those excellently evil samples they used when playing live in the early days. :-)

Sounds interesting.

Er… good question. “Somewhere”. But in a couple of places, so it’s not just one person dreaming.

Well, one said that violent thing, another said something along the lines of random noise.

There was the master LP of Troublegum on ebay some time ago… try to see who bought it and ask for a recording.

Dunno about that one, but I recall an interview in a freebie music mag given away in music shops where Andy was quoted as saying that the original intention was to have about 5 mins of silence then a knocking sound and a voice going ” open up, it’s the police”. Apparently this wasn’t used as they couldn’t bera the though of all those drugs being flushed down the toilet.

Rock n’ fuckin’ roll!

yeh, i seem to recall they originally planned to have the sound of a load of police kicking down a door and shouting.

That [the police thing] would have been funny… I wonder if they’ve got a copy of it somewhere?

Whoever did get that Troublegum item from ebay — wasn’t that an acetate, and therefore possibly an acetate of what is in the shops now, rather than an early version?

Daisy won the bidding, but the reserve wasn’t met so didn’t actually win it.

Guess we’ll never know!

That’s a very egotistical thing to do, Daisy. Citizen Erased would never do that ;)

All 3 of these ideas were discussed but the ‘sunshine’ one seemed to fit best with the lyrical bent of the album rather than just stick some random noise on or have a ‘comedy’ ending which would be funny just the
1st time.

So there we have it!
