There was the master LP of Troublegum on ebay some time ago… try to see who bought it and ask for a recording.

yeh, i seem to recall they originally planned to have the sound of a load of police kicking down a door and shouting.

That [the police thing] would have been funny… I wonder if they’ve got a copy of it somewhere?

Whoever did get that Troublegum item from ebay — wasn’t that an acetate, and therefore possibly an acetate of what is in the shops now, rather than an early version?

I read an interview in which Andy said they had the sound of a door being kicked in and a shout of ‘police, freeze’. If I remember rightly he said: ’ we just couldn’t bear the thought of all those drugs being flushed away, so we didn’t use it”

All 3 of these ideas were discussed but the ‘sunshine’ one seemed to fit best with the lyrical bent of the album rather than just stick some random noise on or have a ‘comedy’ ending which would be funny just the
