I have been a fan of Joy Division for years but recently i have started listening to New Order as well.Despite the odd dodgy lyric i think New Order are a great band.

I like ‘Closer’, it’s a very very warm album (it remind me of Infernal Love). Don’t know much about New Order, just their hits: Blue Monday, Crystal…

Me! Me! I heart Joy Division.
Closer is amazing.

I never really liked New Order.
Just a few songs…sometimes it just goes on and on.

i love joy division. i first heard closer before 1-2 years and i was charmed. later on i bought unknown pleasures
which was very good. lately i got substance which has some
classic joy division songs in it.they are a great band
i cant say the same about new order evethough true faith and crystal are great tunes

new order are really on another planet. they released a dozen of great singles through the years and i enjoy listening to them, but that’s all.

I was lucky enough to see Joy Division live. It’s not too much to say that it changed my life.

I’m astonished that New Order have managed to be almost as influential as JD. To do it not once, but twice…

I’m a big New Order fan, but less so of Joy Division. Can never listen to Isolation without thinking that Therapy? do it so much better :-)

i watched ‘donnie darko’ over the weekend. i thought it was a very cool film, and it seemed to have a good soundtrack. they played joy division ‘love will tear us apart’, and a track which i now love ‘mad world’ by tears for fears.
i haven’t heard much by joy division, but a lot of people talk very highly of them. also there have been some great songs by new order, although i find it hard to admit that they might be a good band

are there any tracks by either band that are worth listening to?

I think Closer was a great album but probably Substance (a compilation released by the record label) would be a good introduction.

I don’t know much about Tears For Fears apart from the singles but since I read your post I can’t get ‘Shout’ out of my head!

Argh! Therapy? do a GREAT version but the original is so much better! Spare and relentless, and cuts right to the bone! Very few covers actually better the original (Therapy’s Diane is one) but not in this case. Ian Curtis was a lyrical genius! And he really felt those lyrics1 He ws despaoiring as he sang those words, and that really shines through.
