Suicide Pact

#

Started by Charlie

Why does everyone rate it next to Troublegum and Semi Detached ( and now High Anxiety )…

I really liked it at first but the muddy production is a bit annoying after a while…

I think the best albums are the ones Chris Sheldon has been involved in.

better than semi and (almost) on a par with troublegum.

the thing about suicide pact is that it was never intended to be a prefect 10/10 album, its not as consistant as troublegum but i just love its “fuck you” style attitude and its originality.

the muddy production is the thing I love the most about sp-yf. in fact, the perfect and clean production of the above mentioned albums takes so much, hrmm.., power from the songs, which still kick ass, no doubt about that. but for me the production of a rock album should be muddy and dirty!!

sp-yf is by far my fav. therapy album… hell, it’s in my top 5 albums of all time by anyone… there is no better album ever made that just says ‘fuck you’ all over it… it gets me so pumped when i feel like shit, and i just want to go out and destroy something… but since i’m a responsible person, the album gets that feeling across without me actually having to go to jail!

I love Suicide Pact.. but I didn’t really like it when I first got it! It was like “huh?” Then after about 9 or 10 listens it was like..”fuck yeah!” Mainly due to the fact that when I first got it my girlfriend at the time wasn’t particularily impressed with me playing it loud, so giving it a hefty dose of volume really brought it out for me.

The double whammy of Little Tongues First and 10 Year Plan is great..it’s a shame that Fat Camp wasn’t on there as it sits perfectly amongst these 2!

I’ve mentioned this a while back on another thread, the drum and bass line on that song is awesome!

Nice idea! It would have been stronger with Fat Camp and Bad Karma on it. It’s not an album I can just pick up easily and spin it around 20 times. :D

I still don’t like SP-YF, and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the sound. Little Tongues First and Wall Of Mouths are great tracks though, but that doesn’t compensate for songs like God Kicks and Hate Kill Destroy.
On the other hand, I totally love Semi-Detached, I already loved it at first listen.
Well, there you have it, a thousand people, a thousand different tastes!

Yeah, that´s my opinion, although I wouldn´t say that the production is “muddy” .
I think it´s raw, direct and powerful.
Even though I like Semi-Detached and Troublegum, I think that they are a little bit “overproduced”, there no edges, if someone knows, what I try to say…

I think Troublegum sounds very direct…no crazy studio stuff on there. Infernal Love has more tricks.
Production wise SP-YF is pretty good. But it has some real fuzzy guitars on and lots of noise. The bass is quite deep also, Wool-y a bit…The cymbals/high-hat seem to be mixed more in front than the rest of the drums also…
But it in the end…its the songs that count.

Suicide Pact is great! I love the album and all the tracks well minus ‘God Kicks’ but Big Cave In I think personally is one of Therapys? best ever tracks! Six Mile Water also.

As for Semi and Infernal I would take Infernal, but only just.

Anyone else notice the main riff to ‘Wall Of Mouths’ is almost exactly the same as the one on ‘Nub’ by the Jesus Lizard?

dunno about that, but the same riff resurfaces on the next album on “body bag girl”.

“Semi-Detached” is my No. 1 lately.

It’s strange how long it took me to like “Suicide Pact - You First”. I guess I was sceptical at first because I thought Therapy? would go on doing albums like that exclusively. Escpecially after Andy told a friend of mine at a gig that they would “keep going in that direction.”.
Apparently “Suicide Pact - You First” was a one time thing (much like every other T? Album) and I actually think it’s a damn good album, one of T?’s best!
