Rock music in adverts

What do you reckon? Sell out? Or like The Dandy Warhols, great? I wasn’t too fussed until I heard Muse on a Nescafe ad, which made me wince a bit.

Argos, brought to you by the Barenaked Ladies. Disgraceful. I don’t know if it’s the final choice of the band or the management though. I guess a lot would have clauses saying the label can distribute the song to whoever they want.

I guess for me it would depend on whether or not I liked the product they were advertising. If it was something crap I’d be annoyed. I quite like Argos though, now that they’ve delivered my sofas…

I think that the song on the Nescafe ad is a cover (as is Muse’s version). It doesn’t sound quite like Matt Bellamy unless its just a different one to the one I have

I’m not that bothered to be honest,i don’t think having a song on an advert is any different than having a song on a film soundtrack.Anyone remember the car advert for the Lexus from last summer?Well it introduced me to the music of Martin Grech.

No, it’s definately Muse on that ad, listen to his whiney voice!

Can’t say I was ever a big fan of the Dandy Warhols and that song did my head in.

Can’t remember that Lexus ad, but it can’t be anywhere near as annoying as that bloody zoom zoom zoom!

It’s most definitely Muse, covering Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’. The track’s on Their Origin Of Symmetry album.

Its alright in my book to submit a tune for an ad, but what really blows my goat is when the song is edited. Like to get to the chorus faster before the end of the ad and all the jazz.
Its just not cricket…

I’m sure the bands don’t mind it not being cricket when all that lovely cash starts rolling in!

Hey, I’ve just seen that Nescafe advert again today..you’re right! That’s not muse singing..it was when it first went out but they’ve changed it. Possibly due to not wanting to pay out as much money to use their cover?

Rock music in adverts aint all that bad. The whole sell out arguement gets me more. Im so bored of hearing people going on about bands selling out, technically as soon as you get paid to perform live or sell an album you have sold out.

Yeah, but all the money he recieves from television comercials is donated to Save the Rainforest funds. I met him about 6 years ago. Pretty cool guy for a pacifistic vegen.

Maybe I missed the ad when it was first on, but it definitely isn’t Muse now. Looks like you were right that it was them though…
