n.i. music

Started by screamin melvin

anyone else noticed that northern ireland has produced some really excellent bands?
therapy? for one
portadown’s joyrider are one of my favourite bands but no ones ever really heard of them.unfortunately theyre not together anymore
to a lesser extent ash, who arent amazing but its good to see a rock band from n.i. making the charts
And the cream of the crop, in my opinion-Honey For Christ. theyre my favourite band in the whole world and they havent even been signed to a label. they should support therapy? in belfast if you ask me. infact, therapy? should support honey for christ!!
i’d also say watercress but ive only actually heard “the house was burning down” which is a great song. i love hearing good ol northern irish accents in music.
any other n.i. bands i forgot to mention?

Yakuza and SomeDaysBetter are two great NI bands.

Also Corrigan, Desert Hearts, Morph, Panda Kopanda, Clone Quartet, Los Cabras…

There are a lot of quality bands emerging from NI at the minute.

It was a cover of a Jane Wielden song from the eighties. I thought they were a good band, I’ve got their album somewhere. Some good tunes on it…

yep - joyrider great, ash to a lesser extent - i remember when ash were starting to make it big and supported T? at fyfe’s last gig, joyrider were there too, and totally blew ash out of the water. could never understand why ash made it big and joyrider fell by the wayside.

HFC are great. really good live band, would be ‘interesting’ to see them support T?
used to work with andy from HFC, and he is a good bloke too.

thorat are good, but the singing is a bit piss…

los cabros were good too, but split up about a year ago. does anybody remember clearshot from londonderry who supported at the drive-in at the empire? what happened to them? i thought they were really good. last i heard the bassist (i think?) was found dead - so maybe they split up?

They seem to have renamed themselves Roque Junior after the crap world cup winning Leeds defender.

Their site is here: http://www.roquejunior.com - there’s 4 mp3’s to download - not as good as Joyrider though.

What about co.uk? or co_uk or whatever the fuck they were called :) Weren’t they from N. Ireland? I liked them, they were good, but they kept changing their name all the time. Sadly, they’ve split up now. But their mini album, brainwash I think it was called, was quite good.
