Explaining Therapy? T-shirts to people

#

Started by Sabotage

It seems that every time I wear a T?-shirt, I always seem to get asked questions about it.

The other week I was at a “do” wearing the High Anxiety t-shirt.
This guy says, “Your t-shirt is upside down”.
I said, “It can’t be, I’ve got it on. It wouldn’t fit the other way up.”
He looks a bit confused, then says, “No. I mean those letters are upside down.”
“Oh,” says I, “they’re supposed to be like that. That’s how the lettering is on the new album.”
“What album?”
“Therapy’s new album”
“Oh! They’re a band.”
“Yes. They’re a band.”

This is a very abridged version. The real conversation seemed to last forever.

Then last weekend, I was round the parents with the HEAVYFUCKINMETAL t-shirt on.

Mum says, “Therapy? What’s that”
“It’s the name of a band mum.”
“I didn’t know you had changed the name of your band, ” she says. “Did you,” she asks my dad.
“I dunno,” he says.
“No mum. Not my band. Therapy are A band. From Northern Ireland.”
“Ooh. Lots of trouble there.”
“Yes mum.”

Bless…

everybody said to me “hey questionmark!”

i really wait for the moment, that someone says, while i wear my nurse shirt

“do you get money for promoting a hospital?”

but í think the question, which is asked most is
“do you need therapy?”

“YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!”

:)

heh, i bought one of those for my girlfriend, back in the day. she had to move into my place, shortly after, as her dad kicked her out of “his house*” when he saw her wearing it

*notice it’s always their house when you do something wrong, but it’s your room, and your mess, etc? parents.

When I was in a small town near Melbourne, I was wearing my ‘Shameless On The Road’ shirt, with the album cover on the front. This lady behind the counter looked at it, and said: ‘A shirt with kangaroos! So you just needed a cheap shirt, huh?’ Then I explained that they weren’t kangaroos, that Therapy? was a band, etc., and that the shirt wasn’t that cheap! Kangaroos… Puh!

The Newcastle arrest made the news page in the NME! They must have been really short of stuff to write about that day! This was when the Criminal Justice Act bill was first being pushed through, the incident was mentioned at the gig at Newcastle Uni later that year as Andy introduced Potato Junkie.

My SFO t-shirt has come in very handy in the past for responding to kids flicking the v’s from the back seat of coaches..ha ha! I won that one!

I can sympathise with you Flo, my mum went mad when I got mine!

Never had such problems with T? shirts.

A local punkband band Tsunami had transformed the song stand be me in suck my dick.
I had a t-shirt with Tsunami Suck my dick!
After twoo weeks my mother said to me:

Look i’ve asked what suck my dick means.
Why do you wanna wear a t-shirt with such lyrics?

But i lost it after her first sentence.

hahahaa

And i had a WiZo (german punkband) t-shirt with a crucified pig as jesus on it. My parents aren’t religious but i weren’t allowed to wear it at Easter and Christmas.
Because i could offend people with.

hehehee

Oh ja i had a t-shirt with a normandïer’s (?) head splashed in two by a axe. If i could change my shirt for dinner.

Well oke…

Conclusion: band shirts are great fun

I’ve got the article somewhere, the band were saying they’d go and stick up for the guy in court if they had to I think. The thing that the police actually charged him with, it was some arcane law from the 1800s regarding profanity in public, I can’t remember exactly. Evil police anyway.

My mate has a Cradle Of Filth one with “Touched by Jesus” and a picture of a woman crucified with Jesus havoing his hands on her tits with a weird expression on his face and on the back it says, “Fingered by God” - same woman about to poke herself with a crucifix which has divine lihght shining on it. When his mam saw the back she said she wouldn’t have gotten him it if she’d seen that side!

Cradle of Filth seem to make a habit of producing offensive t-shirts, like the “Jesus is a cunt” one, my own personal feeling is that it’s to make up for two of the following problems:

a) They’re a bit shit
b) Scary COF singer Dani tries to look all gothic, fearsome and imposing…but he’s tiny! It doesn’t quite work! I have this mental image now of him trying to menace people but being foiled by them wearing cricket pads…

Two other bands who are a bit shit but tried to hide the fact by releasing offensive t-shirts are Deicide ( “I’m going to kill myself at 33”..”Happy 33rd Birthday Glen, you gonna top yourself now?” “Erm..no, I said I might be dead by 33” “You bloody liar!” ), and the utterly, utterly shit Cannibal Corpse..my god, they’re utterly shit!

Gotta have respect for the drummer, isn’t too easy to drum like he does for a prolonged time

One morning at school I was wearing my blue T?-shirt with the psycedelic Gemil on front. One of my friends said:
“Oh, Therapy?”

I didn’t hear it and said to him:
“I got a realy bad hangover today…
- Some of us have to keep up the great Danish traditions.”

“Therapy?” -He asked.

“No, hangovers!”

I think that’s the most strange story I can tell.
Normaly people who doesn’t know T? are just asking “Is it you that are in need of therapy?”

The best COF tee has to be the ‘touched by Jesus, fingered by God’ one.

the front has a pic of jesus holding someone and on the back there’s a huge hand coming out of the sky (ala ‘it could be you’), and well… you get the idea.

great t-shirt.
