DVD in the States

#

Started by todd

I see some great news on the DVD. Will I be able to get it (and play it) in the USA?

Thanks

There are other sites available, just search in google or something. I tried to make my (standalone) DVD player region free, and it worked perfectly!

Couldn’t agree more.

The bad news is, according to the amazon.co.uk page Therapy? live in Belfast , that it’s region 2 encoded - so not playable in the states. BUT… since they don’t even have the title right, I suppose this might also be wrong?

::All technically impaired:: It’s amazing I can turn on the computer without it blowing up, let alone worry about encoding.

Looks like another thing us fans in the states will just have to shrug our shoulders and accept as fact.

As per another thread, there will be a region 1 release.

Is the U.S. region 1? I have absolutely no idea how that works, why can’t there be universal encoding? Is it just because of the different electrical inputs?

No, it started because films used to (still are?) be released on DVD and video in the US quite some time before they were elsewhere, so it was introduced to reduce piracy.

The US is indeed Region 1. It’s very easy to decode (most) players to read all regions though. Scout around the internet for whichever model you have, normally it’s just a sequence on your remote control to unlock it.

Yup… other things like Macrovision can be turned off on DVD players also. Not an expert, but I believe that to view Region 1 DVDs in the UK, for example, you have do get rid of the region protection, BUT ALSO need either a DVD player that will convert to PAL output, or a TV that will accept NTSC input… because the actual encoding on the disk is different. I think — is that right???

Hm… I’m not sure. If it isn’t released in a format readily playable for my player, I probably won’t pick it up. Thing is, it makes me feel a bit like Ash, being told that I have to quest for this book so I can go back home. I know, over reacting a bit, but I’d hate to pick it up and not be able to get it to work.

Am I talking to a wall (of mouths) here? I posted a link a couple of days ago, it’s a site where you can select your model DVD-player, and find out how to recode your DVD player. The site is http://www.regionfreedvd.net

Yeah, you’re right Alex, you need a tv that is NTSC compatible, otherwise you get lovely crystal clear DVD quality..in black and white!

Except for Sony’s - which can’t be decoded. Which is what I have, sadly.

Just to say I’ve had an order on at Amazon for 4 weeks now for the last single and they still haven’t managed to get it in stock, also they haven’t been that good at keeping me informed.. So does anyone know any other vender on the net thats worth trying? as I would rather lose another knee cap in a mosh pit than give then any more money…

Title: DVD

Thanks Alex,

Alas their site fails to find any thing by Therapy?..

For those interested I have found the DVD for sale on Blackstar at £14.99 with free postage, seems to be the best price so far.
