Therapy? Tour Confusion

#

Started by Teethgrinder (René Fennema) Administrator

I’ve just sent this out on the mailing list:

Ok, it appears that there has been some confusion about our October/November tour. Certain clubs have been advertising and selling tickets for our forthcoming tour without these shows being CONFIRMED. Obviously we don’t want people to pay money or make travel arrangements for a show which isn’t definately 100%. This is pretty shitty for all concerned as well as THERAPY? getting the blame for changed dates or non-shows.

We began working on this tour about 6 weeks ago and at all times we were aware of the ‘proposed’ schedule. The reason we didn’t make anything official was that our agent had to ensure that the dates fitted logically together and that the clubs would be able to provide the required technical support…suitable sound system, lighting equipment, security and safety practises. Until the end of last week we were still changing dates around to make the tour flow more logically and efficiently. Now we have confirmed all the European shows on our website which means people have a good 7 weeks to buy tickets and make travel/work/school plans if necessary.

Check out the confirmed European shows on our website:
http://www.therapyquestionmark.co.uk/tour/

To explain the delay a little bit…It’s not just a case of our agent going out with a wish list and saying to the promoters “This is the way it’s going to be”. There are considerable factors such as travelling distances (our bus driver can only legally drive a certain amount of hours in one 24 hr period), border taxes (we don’t want to be going in and out of countries repeatedly to pay duty on our tshirts again and again) plus bear in mind these clubs are trying to accomodate other artists and tours which face the same logistical problems around the same time.

If we announce “the tour” too early or piecemeal we run the very real possibility of looking stupid and pissing people off when we have to change something. Better to be patient and “slow” than fast and wrong. Believe you me, two weeks ago the tour looked very different to how it looks now.

We do get annoyed when dates are advertised before the band and management have agreed to do them but in these days of instant communication there is nothing we can do to stop it …BUT we would rather wait so as not to feed fans wrong or potentially wrong information. The reason THERAPY? still manage to do successful, professional tours year after year is that we are very careful about choosing the right clubs and scheduling which ensures both ourselves and our audiences enjoy the show. We thank you for all your support.

At the risk of repeating ourselves NOTHING IS DEFINATE until it is anounced on our website. This means the club, agent, band and management have reached a definate agreement about the concert and a contract has been signed which guarantees the bands appearance.

Sorry if this has gone on a bit but we felt it was important to clear up some of these confusing rumours which have been flying around regarding the tour. The UK shows will be announced on the site as soon as they are confirmed as will the support acts. Thanks for reading…just remains for me to add we’re really looking forward to these shows and plan to kick as much ass as ever…see y’all down the front…

Erm… personally I don’t think there was much tour confusion at all…? Has anyone really been “confused”? OK, so a date moved, but big deal… This seems to have become a mountain…, or do people disagree with me?

Well, I know that several people have e-mailed me and T? to ask about tour dates which have been announced on venues’ websites and have now been changed/cancelled, so there was definitely some confusion.

Also, I know that there was at least one gig (Hardenberg) for which tickets were being sold for the wrong date and this might have not been the only one. I don’t think we should underestimate the issues that announcing (and especially selling tickets for) unconfirmed tour dates can bring with them, like useless travel and sleeping arrangements.

Even if Michael’s e-mail only saves one fan from making unnecessary expenses to attend a gig (and some people travel long ways to be able to attend a T? gig!) it’s already been worth it in my view.

Oh, I agree there, but I would have thought that if a venue is selling tickets for a gig, and then the gig is postponed/cancelled/moved — you are entitled to a refund if you want one? And the most important thing for a gig is to get the ticket. Travel arrangements surely you would make later on, once you are sure the gig is going ahead? I dunno. I see what you are saying, but sometimes I can’t help thinking whether it is T? tour confusion, or fans’ brain confusion.

I agree with you that it’s best to not make travel arrangements until you’re sure that a gig is going ahead, but having a ticket with the band, venue and date printed on it in front of you surely gives most people the feeling that it is?

As ‘the average fan’ probably only checks in on the site every once in a while, and not everybody reads the message boards we decided to send out this e-mail to make clear that a gig hasn’t been officially confirmed until it’s on the site… sadly even if you have a ticket.

The info on sp.com is from the advert in the Reading programme. It’s not confirmed as Rene says, and as Michael says, until it’s on this website. So don’t book your flight yet! :)

Actually, it looks like it must have moved — the ad in Reading programme says that tickets are available at gigsandtours.com — they weren’t up there last week, and now they are — for the Tuesday.

So my money is now gonna be on the Tuesday :)

Alex wrote:

nme.com/gigs has it for the Tues too. But they use the same network as WayAhead, so that’s not really additional confirmation.

euh?…about that logistical things…not paying taxes twice blabla…what about that hamburg gig then? doesn’t that mean being in germany twice??…sorry, i’m not such a professional in making tourplans… :D

and about the distances…i didn’t knew that travelling “kreuz und quer” is better then doing a “logical round” or s.th. like that…

yeah well, and anyway…

Well, I think we’ve already established that there was definitely some confusion, so there’s not much else I can say about that.

As for the logistics of the tour, they try to do it as economically and comfortably as possible (taking the mentioned taxes and travelling distances into account), but it’s very hard to get the entire tour exactly as they’d want, especially because of the fact that there are lots of other artists/bands doing the same thing!

Wouldn’t worry about that. It’s on aloud.com, and the tour is “confirmed” now. OK, the Gothenburg thing didn’t quite work out, but you have to cross that threshold of belief at some point, and I would have thought that the Astoria gig will go ahead.
