Gimme new T? stuff!

#

Started by dano

Sort of!

Just a vague rambling musing more than anything, but how many people here have downloaded the rare and unreleased stuff from the site?

The reason I’m asking is that personally, whilst I love the fact that you can get this stuff free..if you had the opportunity to get it in top notch sound quality from the site for a price..would you go for it? I know I would!

This is probably nostalgia on my behalf, but I loved the fact that when the postal fan club was on the go, you could buy stuff like the live fan club release. It does make me wonder that if there was enough of a demand would it be worth it if T? put out a live cd/ rare demos/ lost recordings etc via the net?

I’ll apologise in advance to Rene if you’re thinking “oh god, don’t give me more work!”, but people still talk about ye olde fan club cd’s with a lot of passion, I do wonder if such an idea is worth consideration?

Thoughts anybody? Would you go for it?

Aereogramme did something like that by selling CD-Rs with live tracks and with unreleased demos at their shows.
You might be able to download the tracks from somewhere, but a kind of official release would be something collectors might be craving for.

I think this subject has come up some time ago when discussing early ideas for the site with T?, but it’s been a while, so I can’t remember what the outcome was at that time. I still like the idea though, so I’ll discuss it with them to see what’s possible, also depending on how many people show an interest for it here.

Instead of everyone psting his memememememememe (including me) someone should set up a poll (we didn’t have one for quite a while).
Dano, as you came up with the idea, you should get all the credit for it and do it.

T? could always do something similar to what Pearl Jam did and release some live bootlegs of their recent tour, instead of releasing a live album for every date they could release a few shows they feel reflect the T? live experence best. But i suppose the DVD release would rule a live album out for the time being.A collection of demos/unreleased/b-sides/acoustic etc would be cool.I think a mail order cd would sell well enough.

B-sides would work, to a point, but a lot of people already have the majority of these. If you just consider the one-country releases, like the B-sides from Isolation, and the really old stuff, i.e. Teethgrinder B-sides and then the demos, plus maybe a few more acoustic songs previously unreleased, that may work. Plus a lot of these “lost songs” that have never found the light of day…

I don’t think the PJ idea would work per se, as the sales market is not there to make it even vaguely viable. But I agree with the previous comment, of maybe select the best show from the early Fyfe era, the best from late Fyfe, the best from Graham and the best from Neil, and slightly tidy them up (just a quickie day job each with someone who knows what they are doing) and leave it at that — mail order.

I only said something similar to Pearl Jam i wasn’t suggesting T? release a live album for each show they do but maybe just a live album as a souvenir of their 2003 tour.Maybe they could work on a boxset of unreleased stuff one cd for each era of the band lots of demos and radio sessions etc.

I would definitely spend some money on this.

Did you ever get feedback from T? about this idea Teethgrinder? I think it would be really cool to have a T? CD similar to the bootleg Nirvana Outcestide series.

MP3s are great, but damn…I just can’t get as excited by an MP3 as I do when I open a package up from the mailman, and I get to hold a new, rare piece of music. Nothing beats it!

I would love it too to hear new cello tunes. Martin alone or with the rest of the band. I really love Lunacy Booth string version because it is totally different to the original version.

Since the finnish cello virtuosis Apocalyptica is on the same label (at least were when I looked Spitfire’s website long time ago) with T? it would be nice to hear somesort of collaboration with the band or Martin as guest cellist. They (Apocalyptica) have Slayer’s Dave Lombaro on nearly half of the tracks on their new album REFLECTIONS (Hint, hint, hint ;o)

Good news guys, they really liked the suggestion :D

I showed them dano’s post and we discussed several things we could do, like several CD’s with a theme (a live one, one with demos, etc.) or a CD with something of everything, etc. They will discuss the idea with their management, with regards to copyright issues and licensing fees and we’ll be in touch about it again after the tour.

Don’t expect the CD’s to be ready a week after the tour, as it takes some time to make it all happen, but at least they are up for it and will be looking into pursuing this. Good things come to those who wait ;-)
