they only do it in america, don’t they? but i don’t care too much about it cos i never use it, besides there are enough alternatives which are free, so it’s also a very stupid dissision
but hey, Bill, it’s your company

There are 2 MSN-chat versions…
MSN-chat and MSN-messenger
All MSN-chats will be blocked on 14 october,
MSN-messenger will stay alive as far as I know (I hope so, ‘cause it’s a great way to communicate with my friends from far and WOM)

I really hope they keep messenger.
I never use chatrooms and I think they do more harm than good. Apparently AOL have already got rid of their chatrooms or something but they never announced it officially.

i agree, messenger is good as it’s an easy way to stay in contact (especially with long distance friends etc thus avoiding huge phone bills) but the chatrooms are a bad idea anyway. i never use them and i think they aren’t safe, especially for younger people. however i do think it’s a bit fucked up that things have to get so bad that they just shut them down. i suppose it’s a reflection of the world we live in really.

The thing is, they’re keeping messenger and you can do a group conversation in that anyway so if you’re just meeting for a chat with friends it’s easy enough to do that instead.

I used to use chatrooms a lot, tend to stick to message boards nowadays so doesn’t really affect me but I think what they’ve done is fair enough. Still, maybe we should have one last party in our MSN room on the 13th? :D

For chats - use Yahoo?

There are alternatives out there for everything that Microsoft are involved in - you just got to search for them. And you have to be prepared for some inter-operability issues. The only real benefit of using Microsoft products is that you can be pretty certain that everything will hang together reasonably well, and usually on the first pass.

My Messenger has randomly decided that instead of checking my Hotmail, it will now open Outlook Express when I try to email - can’t figure out how to tell it off for this, any clues?

Maybe you should uninstall and download messenger again?

Or get someone else to try and sign in on you’re pc to see what happens.

It doesn’t bother me; MSN’s websites really suck anyway (especially if, like me, you use an extreme niche operating system with poor browser support ;-) ), but anyway… I usually use IRC if I want to chat with a bunch of people online. I do use MSN messenger to keep in touch with a few friends, though.

I’m crap at being on Messenger! I just like it to tell me if it’s worth checking my Hotmail (answer is invariably no anyway, unless I really do want to enlarge my penis or get compensation for my unfortunate accident). As it happens, it then refused to let me log in at all unless I downloaded the new version, and that has solved the problem. Except now I have to change hard drives cause of some ISP thing so will have to redownload everything anyway. BAH. I do apologise for the length of this whinge :D.

Was so hung over on Sun - couldn’t remember much of the night before, but had all these obscure texts on my phone…
