Amsterdam: Paradiso gig

#

Started by Dermot (The Derm)

Hey Amsterdam people! There’s are good chance I may be visiting your fair city when this gigs on. Is it sold out, and if not, how could I get a ticket or three? If it is sold out, are any of the other gigs in Holland nearby? Cheers - nothings definate yet, but I’m gonna try my best to make it.

The Tivoli gig in Utrecht would be a good option for you I think. Utrecht is about 30 mins away from Amsterdam if you go by train, and the connection between both cities is very good, trains go all night between Amsterdam and Utrecht.
If you want to order tickets, you can try http://www.ticketservice.nl, but I’m not sure if buying tickets is restricted to Dutchies only. Good luck!

The Paradiso is very near the Leidseplein (“Lay-tsu-plain”), I suggest taking a tram. A lot of trams are going from Central station to Leidseplein (1, 2 and 10 for example), just ask the driver. I believe it’s 15 minute travel by tram.

Paradiso
Weteringschans 6
Amsterdam
http://www.paradiso.nl

Or; print out a map at this site; http://www.goudengids.nl just fill in the yellow box “Paradiso” and “Weteringschans” On the next screen click on the word Paradiso. On the next screen click on “toon plattegrond”, you’ll get a detailed map of Amsterdam

It’s possible the show will sell out, although I don’t think so, when they played in Amsterdam in april it was the only show in Holland and it didn’t sell out. You can buy tickets at the venue only on the day/night of the show.

Ah well, I won’t be goin to this gig because I just got a job that starts on that very date, and i obviously can’t take my first day off! I might try and head over to Scotland to see ‘em or just hope that they announce Irish dates. In any case, I’ll be over to Amsterdam sometime before Christmas.

I think you’ll get a pretty good impression of what the setlist will be like based on the setlists posted in the threads about the last five shows, with the exception of maybe one or two new songs.

I won’t be making photos of the show tomorrow, but if you end up doing it yourself and want to share them with me to put them on the site, please do :-)

I ended up listening (and watching) the lousiest stream, because the second one sounded terrible (audio codec problems perhaps?) and skipped all the time.

Well can’t say much more about the smallest stream (One simply cannot squeesh much stuff in 44 kbit/s), but at least it doesn’t skip all the time.

At the moment they started playing the connection broke down. Just saw the last 4 minutes of the gig…

On the other hand, I was there yesterday and the day before yesterday. :) Too bad i didn’t see this gig, but I hope they will put it in the on demand list, which is quite impressive I must say.

Just seen the webcast and it has curtaining wet the appetite for when the guy’s return to the UK in November, I cannot wait. See Andy had a few problem with tuning during the gig, usually it’s Michael with basses, in the UK, must be the Dutch thing..:)

Not totally, as yesterday and the day before yesterday Michael had problems with his bass-amp. Which resulted yesterday in plugging in wire instead of total freedom of the cordless system. :( But he didn’t care, and in a few minutes that cable was a mess, and the roadie was constantly busy disentangling it. :D

Enjoyed the show a lot last night. Enthousiastic audience, the band is always going for it, can’t think of a better way to spend my Tuesday evening. Maybe technically it wasn’t their best show ever, but enthousiasm goes a long way!

The only real criticism I have is that they played relatively little songs off the last album (only 6 out of 12) and quite many from Troublegum (7 songs). Now of course Troublegum is a great album and everybody loves to hear these songs, but Therapy? should watch out not to turn into a band that puts out a new album and then goes on a tour playing the old “hits”. Taking into account the quality of the recent material and the good response of the crowd to songs from just about any album, that really isn’t necessary.
