Islamic Gynaecologists

#

Started by penn

As many of you already know, a Nigerian woman sentenced to death by stoning for committing adultery has won her appeal against the verdict.

Her lawyer contended that under some interpretations of Shariah law, babies can remain in gestation in their mother’s womb for up to five years, making it possible under Islam that her ex-husband could have fathered the child.
(She divorced 4 years ago, and made the baby 2 years ago).

Islamic gynaecologists are not so good then… 5 years to make a baby??

I don’t think she actually won her appeal on that claim though. From what I’ve read of the case the judges decided that she hadn’t had enough time to mount a proper defence (obviously!) and there were certain other procedural errors during her trial which invalidated her conviction. Not that it should have ever gone to bloody court anyway.

it wasn’t the main argument, just one of the arguments.

“The defence further argued that under Islamic law some pregnancies could take five years to gestate. This meant that Lawal’s baby might technically have been created by her former husband, from whom she became divorced two years earlier.”

Probably too busy making a baby - that’s a time-consuming process!
