Drank 12 pints of Guinness before going in , wouldn’t have made it through the set otherwise.

Last night saw OFF! Who were fucking fantastic, still think their album is my favourite release this year. Their support was an Oz band the Hard-Ons who have been around since 82 and the blew me away, new favourite band… They are kind of punk with moments of thrash, dinosaur jr/ melvins thrown in. Save Grohl was in the shitty pub watching which was cool. Then today I went and saw the foo fighters who were pretty good for arena rock.

Fantastic gig, they did a best of set and played everything I hoped to hear. Considering their age they put younger bands to shame :)

Very good, but I’d love to have seen them somewhere less soulless.
Before that…I think it was Adam Ant at the O2 in Brum.. very, very good. Legend. Relied very heavily on his first album - which is a good thing, I should add. Stripped down, punky, rock n roll. Cack version of YMCA though - changed to A.N.T.S. :D Knobhead!

Yay, I nearly froze to death on the way there but I made it to the Thin Lizzy gig at Antwerp last Sunday. They were much better than at the Lokeren gig last summer, and I already liked them there. The ‘new’ guitarist is brilliant, he really made the feeling of a Gary Moore concert come to life again at times. All was perfect save for some guy who threw beer on stage and (I’m just assuming it was the same guy) also threw almost an entire pint over my head as well, and I didn’t even care for that much, lol. It was good seeing Ricky again, too, and I believe he spotted my Therapy? shirt in the crowd, there’s no way to be sure though, lol.

Saw Cathedral do one of their last ever gig last night with Paradise lost supporting. PL i don’t really know there songs but they sounded good just a case that the band had no stage presence at all and the sound was really thin and quiet. Cathedral however despite Lee’s voice being as horrible as normal fucking rocked… they were in a great mood and played everything a bit faster and harder as it was the final gigs and sounded huge so was a top night!

yeah, i was at the perth leg - never seen them before (been a fan since ‘94) and was not in the slight disappointed. the rest of the lineup was largely crap though apart from royksopp and cavalera conspiracy.
soundwave on the other hand was pure class. limp bizkit were awful and bush were pretty disappointing. cherri bomb were the suprise package of the day. machine were head great as were paradise lost - wanted to see them for years and then they were on early and i missed half their set. :(
let live were certainly the most entertaining band (although their “energetics” impinged on the sound quality somewhat) - they made at the drive-in look like oasis! too many good bands to remember - a bit bizarre that they do it in one day and have loads of clashes and very short sets. iended up seeing lots of 10mins here and there - eg coal chamber!!!

I’ve been a massive PL fan for years and have never seen them do anything more than a ‘good’ gig; I’ve never come away thinking ‘fuck me that was amazing’. I don’t know what it is about them. It’s such a shame because albums like Shades of God and Icon and Draconian Times are just amazing albums but they never do them the justice they deserve outside the studio. Well, not that I’ve ever seen anyway. I’ll probably be corrected by a million people here but I’ve seen them loads because I love the songs but I agree, the stage presence just isn’t there.

yeah, maybe i was being a bit generous about PL being great - i was just pleased to see them as i’ve never had the chance before. the onstage banter was good - i wasn’t expecting that at all. not sure the aussies got the dry northern wit.
strangely enough i’ve only got “One Second” so if anybody has any recommendations as to what to go for next that’d be good
