He seems to have committed suicide. A sad loss, indeed.

Ah sh*t! I really love the film the roal tenenbaums, and in it there is an amazing song by him called needle in the hay, it’s kinda sad, and beautiful. Last week I tracked it down and listened to it none stop. In the film the tune comes on and Luke Anderson says “I’l kill myself tomorrow” then he slashes his wrists.

It’s not much of a surprise, in a way. He was constantly depressed, his music often very melancholy… but it’s still such a shock. So sad. :(

It’s been confirmed that Elliott smith committed suicide. He obviously stabbed himself.

He died in hostipal from several stab wounds. He was found in his flat and it seems impossible that someone else was involved. So he obviously stabbed himself.
The news is from http://www.visions.de, it’s also said there that he already had tried to kill himself in 1997 because of his severe drug and alcohol problems.

Speaking of being stabbed, I’d like it if people spared a thought for a family here where I live.a mother and baby were both stabbed in a shopping centre and unfortunately only the mother survived. This world is full of madness and sorrow…
