Live setlist (change regulars?)

#

Started by Shuff

Ok, so I’ve just watched the entire webcast from the Paradiso gig, and I have to admit that it was a pretty awesome performance. Thanks to fabchannel.com for letting me witness T?, as I doubt that they’ll ever visit Canada anytime soon.

However, is it just me, or is anyone else tired of hearing the same songs in concert? How many times can they play Knives, Screamager, Nowhere, Teethgrinder and Diane?

I don’t want to criticize the band about the songs they choose to perform, but it often seems to me as if they forget that they made 3 albums named Semi-Detached, Suicide Pact and Shameless.

The Paradiso show has 7 songs from Troublegum, and only one from Suicide Pact. Troublegum is an amazing album, but it came out 10 years ago. Almost everyone’s seen those songs be played. I’d rather see more of the new stuff.

Anyways, that’s just my ranting. I realize that most people who attend the shows are probably not all die hard fans like us on the WOM who know all of T?’s songs and b-sides. Most people at the shows probably know T? mostly from the Troublegum album, and so I’m certain that it’s one reason that T? continue to play many songs from that album.

This is really some endless discussion.

Well i would like that they would play more of the “pre troublegum” years …
I am not the only one, who thinks so …
And than are people like you, who want to hear more of the “after troublegum” years …
But you are right. Most of the people like them, because of troublegum. But i don´t think that much of these people are still going their concerts, who only have the troublegum album at home.

Troublegum is my favourite album, but i can´t hear nowhere, die laughing, or something like this at every single gig. I know that these are songs, which made them famous, but it was 10 years ago.
I know some songs should be classic in a set. So they could say, they play screamager and than either nowhere or die laughing … and thats all … Perhaps some Turn or Femtex or something during the set …

But I must say, that the setlist on this tour is much better, than on the last!

But 7 songs from troublegum is far too much.

They made 10 albums and play 20 songs each gig. I would say that 2 songs from troublegum are enough and i wouln´t say that they have to be die laughing or nowhere. i like the songs, but it can´t really get my feet going in the crowd anymore. I never thought of saying that to some T? songs. But they are getting boring!

The setlist on this tour is great. I really like that they do the effort of playing different songs every night, and not only from Troublegum. They also play at least 1 song of every album. It’s definitely an improvement from the last tour.

I have seen T? a lot, and I still start jumping when they play the Troublegum classics (Knives, Screamager, Die Laughing, Nowhere). And Troublegum isn’t even my favourite album.

And for pre-Troublegum, they have done Skyward and Punishment Kiss already as “surprises”, so it’s a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I’ve missed both, but I am still hoping for Gent. I did see Stand In Line though, which was REALLY great.

And for post-Troublegum, I’m afraid that a lot of people at concerts don’t really know these songs or care a lot for them. I happen to like Shameless and shouted enthousiastically when Andy said: “The next song is from an album called Shameless”, but I think I was the only one there.

What I meant when I wrote the original message is that T? mostly play the same songs most of the time. It’s cool that they’ve started to play some of the early stuff again, but from Nurse, when do they ever play something else besides Teethgrinder (Nausea and Accelerator occasionally), they always play the same troublegum stuff. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a setlist without Screamager, Turn, Knives, Nowhere and Die Laughing on it. From Infernal Love, they almost always do Stories. From Semi-Detached, they always do Church of Noise. And they rarely do much from Shameless or Suicide Pact.

So even if it is true that they perform songs from almost every album at their shows, I guess my point is that they almost always do the same songs from the various albums.

i know, we’ve been complaining about that (“hey, they’re always playing the same stuff from every album”) on these boards for about every a tour.

my opinion on this: look at the setlist like it is now: over 20 songs, from various albums, some rarely heard stuff, and then also the tunes they play on about every tour. i think with this, the fact that they let us choose 4 songs to be played every single night, they did a really really fantastic thing. i mean, in my opinion they found a brilliant equilibrium (never thought i would ever use this word on these boards) between the stuff we want to hear and the stuff they want to play. i used to complain about hearing the sme tunes every single night, but now… hell no, i’m not complaining, not at all!

Do they still do this song? Its my fave of Troublegum, and I’d love to hear it live again (last saw them during infernal love) (hopefully going to see ‘em this month!).

As it has won the poll, they’ll play it.

Thought I’d let you know my opinion on this… My feeling regarding the setlist is that the number of ‘certainties’ is growing, which leaves less and less space for other songs that aren’t played very often. Some of the certainties are:

Nowhere
Screamager
Die laughing
Knives
Teethgrinder
Church of noise
Potato junkie
Diane
I am the money

I know they can’t play every song they have ever written, but perhaps they could omit one of the certainties every now and then, and replace it by another song. About half of the setlist is taken by these certainties, which is quite a lot I think.
But then again, I once read that they will always play songs like Screamager and Nowhere simply out of respect for the fans, after all these songs are the songs that put them on the map.
Having said this, I think the setlists on this tour are the best since years! They have a lot of variation, and they gave us loyal fans the opportunity to pick some of our own favourites. Hint: you might want to do this more often guys, I don’t think anybody disagrees!

Title: Should Therapy change their setlist regulars??? (merged)

It occurred to me reading the live webcast thread that a lot of people think Therapy should change around some of their live show regulars.

I for one would be happy to see them change the regular Troublegum songs for some different ones from that album;
Femtex, Hellbelly instead of Screamager and Knives everytime.

I could also live without potato junkie (let the flaming begin) and diane.

SO, what do you think they should remove from their setlist, and what should they replace it with??

Joe.

Seems with troublegum its: screamager, knives, trigger inside, isolation, nowhere - think they get played abit from now and again.

I’d like to hear more Semi-detached songs personally, and some real oldies, I dunno

Screamager needs to be played I think, its an important song and for those losers who go to gigs only knowing the one song it may be alittle something for them.

Oh who cares lol :)
