New Fan Club?!?

#

Started by nice guys

This one’s meant as a split from the “Gimme new Therapy? stuff” thread.

After having read Teethgrinder’s post, one thing occured in my mind:

FAN CLUB

Why don’t we refound a fan club whose members should be able to get the mentioned CDs or whatever?

What do you think about it?

Is that something Therapy? would support?

Hmmm, difficult one Stefan. I was a member of the old fanclub but the site is far better. Starting a new fanclub could mean a split-up of fans and I don’t think that’s something to cheer for. Combined forces are always stronger than fractions: Teethgrinders’s post (the one you’re refering to) makes that clear.

Besides, it’s a step back in time and…who’s going to run this new fanclub? Your intentions may be just but I don’t think it’s a good idea and I honestly think T? wouldn’t support it.

cheers!

I loved the fanclub and I’d wholeheartedly support having it restored. It’s fair enough that the band wanted to concentrate on doing something decent on the web (da-dah :D) but it’s unfair to say the fanclub would split fans up - there are a gazzilion T? fans (myself included for a long time) who are without internet access so a divide wouldn’t be any greater than it is now. I was gutted when the fanclub ended - I had bugger all band info except what Kerrang! chose to print for a long while.

I think that if there are any CD releases they should be available through both the fanclub and the website though, more sales that way and more reason to do it again.

I’d like a fanclub that did the special limited edition stuff, like the watch, the CPF tshirt or the pin-badge for members, and sent signed birthday cards and stuff. Plus occassional newsletters with the same info as is on the site for our non-web compadres.

Who’s going to run this new fanclub? ME! :D

All right Hooch, you made a few points there. I loved the fanclub as well. I still have the signed birthday and xmass cards, the watch as well although it doesn’t work anymore. And the 1996 live CD is one of my T? treasures. Unfortunately I lost the pin-badge.

One thing I probably overlooked is the fact that a lot of T? fans do not have acces to the internet. You are right about that. When the fanclub stopped I lost track of T? (not totally off course; there are other media as well), because I had no internet access either.

Anyway, maybe it isn’t such a bad idea after all, though I’m not convinced yet. I’ll keep an open mind. But do realise that running a fanclub is not a thing for a rainy saturday afternoon ;)

Let’s hear some more reactions.

I’m not sure what a fan club could do what WoM can’t. You get in touch with other T? fans here, you get audios and videos to download, you get all the information you need about T?.
So, I’m quite happy with the way it is, but I’m open to good suggestions which amke a fan club reasonable.

In defence of the website, it really is one of the best fan-sites out there. Constantly updated, the band always contributing, rare material, news. I’ve been to a lot of sites where there is fuck-all (Electric6, Darkness…).
I think a website is better because you can take it or leave it anytime you want and it’s always just a click away if you want it.
A fan-club would have a negative geeky/stalker feel about it. Lets keep it 21st century.

Of course, this website is (almost) perfect.

But ask yourself (and be honest):

Who would buy a B-side collection of Therapy? if it wasn’t us, the hardcore fans? Even if there are 1200 members on the WOM, only appr. 300 are active writers here.

That whole fan club thing wasn’t meant to be more than a connection of all those who regularly write here and regard themselves as true fans who cannot get enough of T?.

I guess, it would be easier (also for Therapy? and the label) to have a list of registered people who are definitely interested in items such as the mentioned collection or other stuff that (nearly) nobody would buy without us. A fanzine wouldn’t make any sense, of course as this wonderful website offers almost everything a Therapy?-fan could ask for (thanks Sarah and Renè).

I understand that sure. I’ve been a fan for over 10 years, but I was never in a ‘club’ or was ever really interested in joining one. Was there one before? And if there was why was it discontinued. I would look at the reasons for this first because there might be a good reason for leaving it purely online.
Let’s be honest here, T? has not got the following it had in the mid 90s. Gigs are smaller, festival-billings lower, album sales down a little. Would it make sense to start a fan-club up?
(Don’t want to be the nae sayer, just wondering ;) )

A fanclub might be expensive to set up and maintain whereas this website is probably cheaper to run.A fan club sounds very teennage most T? fans are grown up now. This website is the best official band website on the net with free audio/video downloads and constantly updated. If there was a new fan club i probably would join it but i don’t think it would be practical to run one right now not with this great site.

I totally agree! And for those who don’t have internet access there’s always a the local library ;)

cheers!

In the UK edition of HA there was a card you could fill in all you’re details to get priority information on future Spitfire releases. So there is in theroy a database there of T? fans without internet access that is if anyone bothered to fill the card in and send it off.

I sent one off - haven’t heard a thing from them, mind. There used to be that one based in Leamington Spa too but I don’t think they still promote T? - or I just moved house and didn’t tell them, I guess. Still, it was always nice to get a T? postcard once every few months.
