Mansun split up? I really ought to pay more attention to things. That is sad.

for your benefit hooch: (from mansun.net)

WE MUST SAY GOODBYE TO YOU
Posted at 13:55 BST 2/5/2003 by Dave. Status: Confirmed

The long-awaited announcement is simple: Mansun have called it a day. The band members came to the decision towards the end of March, agreeing that they each want to move on with their lives, and that the life of the group had come to an end.

A spokesman for the band confirmed that they have split up, saying that ‘after nearly eight years together, they decided that Mansun had run its course and it is time to do other things’.

Speaking today to guitarist Dominic Chad about the break-up, he explained that there was ‘nothing sinister behind it, it was completely amicable. We all just want to be able to do other things’. When questioned on what those things might be, he could only say that there was no definite information as yet.

Making sure to talk about the support that the band have had over the years, Chad was clear that they were truly grateful for their ‘legions of fans who stuck with us through thick and thin. We are sorry for whatever disappointment this news may bring’.

Principal songwriter and lead singer of Mansun, Paul Draper, was unavailable for comment, away on an extended holiday with no specific date of return.

Take it easy Mansun.

pulp split

Well Pulp are on hiatus Jarvis is doing his Relaxed Muscle stuff under the name of Darren Spooner and they might see how they feel in a few years if they want to do more Pulp stuff.

Oh and Hooch Mansun split up earlier this year they did record some material for a fourth album but decided to call it a day.

Ta for info. Probably for the best, AotGL is one of my favourite albums but they do probably belong in the ‘bands that gradually get worse’ thread as Little Kix really wasn’t on a par.

the first two albums “AOTGL” and “six” are two of the best contemporary albums ever in my opinion and mansun were always my “live favourite”. “little kix” was by far their worst effort. this is digressing from the suede spitting thead i’m sorry.

also, bad karma, with regards to pulp, as much as i would like it, i can’t forsee jarvis ever working under the “pulp” name again. although they’re on “hiatus”, i don’t think it’ll ever happen. no one bought “we love life” except me. and you presumably judging by your signature.

Problem solved :)

Agreed, Mansun were an absolutely blinding live band.

Would be interested to hear Pulp do some more eventually. I really love Intro and His n Hers but was one of those people who rolled their eyes and got bored after Common People / Year 2000 were rammed down our throats far too much.

i agree to a certain extent but that’s why pulp weren’t “cool” anymore after common people. this is hardcore is an un-noticed classic album! his n’ her’s was actually the first cd i ever purchased, i didn’t have a cd player until then. pulpintro has some good stuff on it, particularly razzmatazz and stacks, and the lyndhurst grove one.

Yeah, I have friends who bought the later stuff and say it’s good. I think I will go back to it eventually, the mood just hasn’t taken me as yet.

I love their early albums though, one of my prized posessions was an original 12” of Dogs Are Everywhere but it got left (not by me) too close to a fire and was melted :(

I think His n Hers was the best - I used to be in a band called Acrylic, after Acrylic Afternoons which is still a definite favourite song.

Pulp at Reading 2000 would be in my top three gigs of all time. I think I loved it so much cos I’d forgotten just how good they were. I got my nose bust open by a crowd surfer during ‘babies’ though - the blood splattered all over my T? t-shirt (and other people’s t-shirts too!) ‘Different Class’ was the first album by a band i ever got into on my own, knew all the words, loved every song etc.

Yeah, they headlined one of the Heineken festivals in Leeds (can’t remember what year) and were fantastic then too. Your poor nose! I didn’t mosh when I saw them, just sat on some grass singing along and getting merry :)

Any further info? I wasn’t impressed with album no. 3 but if it was a return to earlier works then I’d be interested. Haven’t actually listened to them in ages as all my vinyl is packed away and I only have the gatefolds.

Theres not much info about the actual album itself although the fans did set up a petition to EMI to release it but so far nothing and i think it will stay that way.Perhaps in a few years time EMI might release a best of/singles compilation and stick a ‘new’ track on it.I don’t think there would be enough people interested in an unreleased Mansun album to justify EMI releasing it and making some money back. But the thing you have to ask yourself is if the unreleased album was any good why did they split?Pulps and Suede’s single compilations both bombed so i don’t think EMI will be in a hurry to rush out any ‘new’ Mansun release.

Little Kix was ok the only song i hate on it is We Are The Boys which i think is an awful song.I though the singles I Can Only Disappoint You and Fool were very good. The last song on Little Kix is Goodbye perhaps its just coincidence or maybe they were thinking about splitting up when they wrote it.

Little Kix is brilliant. I can only dissapoint You is the best they’ve done since Wide Open Space and the rest of the songs are great too. Especially the ones with the hints of electronica.
