Ok which 90’s rock band…

…do you think will split up next?

Following on from the Suede,Mansun/Pulp topics i was just thinking about how many bands from my teenage years are now split up and i was thinking about the ones that are left and how long they have left.

Who do you think will split up next?

My money is on Placebo next but they will release a greatest hits/best of compilation first,or maybe Garbage their last album was a flop.

Bands i would like to see split up are The Sterophonics,Feeder and The Charlatans.

as far as i know stone temple pilots have indeed split up, scott weiland is now a member of velvet revolver with most of the members from guns’n’roses…shame that though, STP were one of my favourite bands from the 90’s.

Pantera also split earlier this year. Their “Reinventing Hell” best-of is excellent.

Don’t forget the release of a live album, especially for a band touring as hard as Placebo. So a live album early next year, the best of compilation for christmas then, and then the split.

T? knew how to avoid this by releasing the best of before the live dvd. Very clever guys, rock on. :D

Another casualty this year was an indie band called Shed7.

I was gonna mention them but didn’t since they’re already split. When Changegiver came out I really loved Shed7, it’s a brilliant album and they were very nice chaps, they toured a lot so saw them quite regularly for a couple of years.

Then they ruined it by doing the Oasis thing of becoming really dull and releasing what sounded like exactly the same song 20 times. Sad end :(

They weere all set to be the next big thing, until Suede stole their limelight back in , oh 1992. Don’t think they ever recovered in terms of NME etc giving them much coverage. Chasing Rainbows was always my fav, although I did like Speakeasy as well

Certainly hope so, Dead Elvis is a classic but don’t really like their later stuff, though have only heard them a couple of times. Not growers, then?

I totally agree about Placebo. Their concert was bad enough to make me think that playing together is no more fun for them.
Garbage can’t split since they’re not a “rock band”, not a band either… :D

Hopefully there Stereophonics will split, what with them saying they’re not going on without Stuart Cable.
Although Kelly Jones is an arrogant cunt, so he’ll probably just get in another session drummer.
In all honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised if Radiohead went now. Even a lot of their fans are beginning to say they’ve reached their peak now, and I wouldn’t like to see them do a Pink Floyd and carry on going twenty years later, doing really bland stuff.
The Manics have one more album in them (although Know Your Enemy was supposed to be their last at one point). Apparently the new one’s going to be very stripped down, as opposed to the quite electronic tracks of late (There by the Grace of God and b-sides, Forever Delayed etc)…

Um, no you’ve lost me a little here.

Oasis - last three albums - some good stuff, lots of bad stuff

DiV - only heard Contino Sessions, because of the Levi’s music, and it was cheap, quite liked it, but not a huge part of my life.

However, point I was making is that DiV, being a bit more original than Oasis, may lead to the nedxt Oasis album being an improvement on the previous 3.

No sarcasm intended ;)

I can’t see Radiohead splitting anytime soon,in the recent Q special it said they signed another six album deal,Thom has talked about releasing eps in the future and their new stuff would be loud stuff with computers. They may be past their commerical peak though like REM.

Regardless, the point is that Contino Sessions and other later DiV albums in no way match up to Dead Elvis, which is their best album by a gazzilion miles. :D

Ah, who knows. I heard something about EPs ages ago… I’m just hoping their next material is longer lasting than HTTT, which I got tired of pretty quickly.

yeah that’s true actually, they did say that about e.p’s during the amnesiac time. they did the live mini album but not e.p’s as such. also, i have to agree with your comment about hail to the thief. i really liked it at first but don’t listen to it much now as it does become tiresome quickly. having said that, i’m seeing them in london in two weeks so i may change my opinion again then. sorry, i’m going off topic again.
