Well, once again I have to thank you all for your get well wishes and messages of support since I became ill and had to leave the tour. You’ve all helped to keep my spirits up through what has been a tough time, and I’ve no doubt that you are helping to speed up my recovery.

When I left the tour from Nottingham on saturday, I had a perforated eardrum, was almost deaf in my left ear and was in constant pain. I had hoped to rest at home for a few days, then return to the tour, but my condition got steadily worse and I was finaly admitted to hospital on wednesday morning. I’ve never been admittd to hospital before and it was really strange.I lay in bed with tubes sticking out of my arms and nurses asking me endless questions. None of the doctors seemed to know what was wrong with me, and each time one doctor examined me, they would send for another to get an alternative opinion. At one point I had 7 doctors around me, all sticking microscopes into my ears, and muttering about my ‘condition’. One day turned into four, and they finally diagnosed an unusual virus that attacks the middle ear and the nerves to the ear and face. I’m still partially deaf in my left ear and am not well enough to return to the tour which is a huge dissapointment. The good news is that I’m responding well to the treatment and I’m expected to make a full recovery - although it will take time. Today is the final show of the tour and as it’s in London I’ll be going along to visit the guys for a couple of hours - its going to be good to see them again and catch up on whats been happening in my absence.
Lastly I want to thank you all for helping to make this tour so brilliant and for keeping a smile on my face when my head was hurting like a muthafucka.
Till the next time…
Martin

Man thats not nice. My being deaf in one ear was caused by Mumps when I was about three and it did sort of the same thing- my ear drum, cochlea and nerves are all buggered now. Hope you fair better than I did!

Keep getting better!! :)

HeySatan, I’m sure that’s exactly what Martin wanted to hear! :p

Well, maybe not “hear”, more like “read”.

Get well soon Martin!

It was meant in a positive- “glad your not as bad as that” way. Sorry, didnt mean to cause any extra worry. :)

And its not stopped me from playing drums- and I save money on ear plugs! So I think we’ll see Martin return soon!

Now Martin, you’d rather have 7 nurses around your bed! But hey, you are responding well and that is positive…Doctor Ronald says:”Give him, give him Shock Treatment, give him, give him Shock treatment…He wants a Shock treatment.

Once I promised you a good bottle of red wine from France, time to keep my promise has come… now all you should do is to get in touch. It won’t heal you, but it won’t make you feel worst no more :D

Get well soon, Martin!

Get well soon Martin! I saw you guys at Reading, and I’m really glad I went to a gig where you were all there. It was the best gig I’ve ever been to I think.

See you on the next tour!

Glad to hear you’re expected to make a full recovery. Get yourself some more expensive ear-plugs after you do! :) I don’t think anyone here could imagine Therapy? without you. And who knows, this could be the perfect opportunity to record an acoustic jazz odyssey (sic) album. Or maybe not.

ouch! (again!) I’m not sure I needed to know all that in so much technicolour detail… sounds pretty nightmarish to me (as do most stories involving a doctor - never mind seven of them).

good to hear you’re on the mend now, martin - look after yourself, and get well soon! :)

I hope you’ll be well enough to enjoy christmas with your loved ones. And how’s the ?-shaped guitar doing you received at Lingen? It would be great to see it more often on the next tour. Maybe they can do a ?-shaped cello as well.

@Irishlady. You sound a bit passed over. G… As he writes he’s really happy with all the nice&lovely get well wishes, but I can imagine it must be weird to get so much attention from people you don’t know really well. Actually am wrong, I can’t imagine that at all. I think it would drive me crazy if people would interfere with my (private) life. But I can see you’re really proud to know him. I hope he’s got the same feeling about you. I can only dream of meeting one of the guys in real person. Well at least I saw his friend Jack.

Today the patient is doing well. Complete recovery is going to be a slow process but I’m feeling good - definitely a lot better than I was feeling this time last week. The hearing in my left ear is gradually returning which is a relief - going deaf wasn’t exactly on my christmas wish list - and hopefully I’ll be well on my way to perfect health in the New Year. :D - Martin

Yeah, you could have had prostate problems and had a doctor with really big hands “examine” you. *Shudder*

Glad to hear your hearing’s come back. I lost the hearing in my left ear for 2 days, but it was just cos I was bleeding inside my ear and the congealed blood was clogging it up. I was fairly annoyed though.

I went to see the band in Newcastle, they really were amazing, as usual.
I was shocked when you weren’t there, I met the lads after the show( after waiting for AGES, of course, being Newcastle the weather was less than tropical)They filled me in, sorry to hear about your condition, but it sounds as if you’ll gettin by o.k.
Hope to see you next time Therapy? come to ‘the toon’
