The DVD

I was just wondering how well the DVD actually did.
Anybody see it in any DVD charts or know if it made a profit?

it just crossed my mind and wanted to see if it turned out to be a good idea in the long run.

Very strange I’ve seen lots of them here in Belgium… I guess nearly every musicstore has a couple over here.

We’ve figured out that they exist.

I think what everyone is saying is that if you can’t find it in the shops, it won’t have sold well at all.

I’ve got some numbers!!! My shop got none in and sold none even though I pestered the hell out of the managment to get some and they eventually said they would- and then proceeded not to. However that could be seen as a 100% strike rate as it were :D And actually on that it means I’ve never seen a copy in the flesh which begs the question “Do they really exist?”

Then again they’ve only had a total of 12 copies of High Anxiety pass through the shop. All we ever have in is Nurse and Suicide Pact. Oh yeah I tried HMV (ergh!) up the way from my place and they told me it had been deleted.

So you see- hard facts, but of no use.

Or maybe it just sold out?

I wonder why it has been deleted so quickly?

On the subject of sales, does anyone know how many cds you have to sell before an album can go gold?

In the UK you have to sell 100,000 units for an album to be certified Gold.

Thanks. So does that mean they sold 100,000 copies of Shameless then?

Of course it’s sold out, I bet they only keep 5 copies of it! Just before Christmas I looked for a copy of Scopophobia for a couple of mates. Both HMVs in central London didn’t have one. Nor Virgin. Or Tower Records. I asked a guy from the staff, they said they could get it but you know I was quite in a hurry to buy it so said no and in the end got it at Amazon. He was quite embarassed but said to me that since Therapy? are not really the band everyone asks for…they only get a couple of copies of their dvd and eventually order another one if someone else request it.

I’m not sure but whatever Shameless sold i bet it was more than SP-YF did.

In almost every article I read about SP-YF, they talked about ‘commercial suicide’. I kinda agree, it’s by far the least ‘accessible’ album they made imho.

I don’t know why people go on about SP-YF being so uncommercial. I mean, it’s not as poppy as Semi-Detached, but it’s not like it’s a Dimmu Borgir album. Hell, it’s not even as noisy as Will Haven or Vision Of Disorder.

I actually thought SP-YF was reasonably commercial.. not in the sense that they were sucking Satan’s cock and releasing songs about flowers and girls, but I always thought the average rock fan would be blown away by it and people would buy it in droves.

Its hard to see how SP-YF is less commercial than such ‘uncommercial’ albums as Kid A and In Utero, both of which did tidy business.

I think every fan that has a DVD-player and that has found the DVD somewhere must have bought it so I guess that worldwide they must have sold at least 250000 copies.

What SPYF is concerned, I think that if QOTSA would have released SPYF and Shameless that they sold at least as much as Songs For The Deaf and Rated R.
