The Twilight Singers

#

Started by allroy

It’s Greg Dulli’s new band (I hope you remember the former singer of the mighty Afghan Whigs) and its music continues the soulful grunge the whigs used to play. They’ve released two albums so far with and are currently touring Europe and anyone who gets the chance to see them should do so.
I’ve seen them yesterday and they are absolutely brilliant.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that Andy was a big fan of Afghan Whigs. Never heard any of their stuff though - am I missing out (on AW music, not in life in general, I know what the answer is to that :()?

Yes, you’re missing out. I don’t think much of the first album of the Twilight Singers but Blackberry Belle is brilliant. It doesn’t compare to the AW’s The Temple, Let Me Lie To You, Step Into The Light, Honky’s Ladder, Be Sweet, Debonair, Faded, Going To Town, 66, Crazy, Something Hot, What Jail Is Like or Gentlemen but it is good enough to make an AW B-side record. God, I miss them so much.

Shame on you again, CE.

On stage, The Twilight Singers are definitely noisier than on record (except the parts where Mr Dulli’s alone on the piano), and Greg still has one of the finest voices in the whole alternative rock circle.

yeah also really looking forward to seeing them on friday, i got a copy of blackberry belle yesterday and it sounds pretty damn good to my ears, perhaps not as good as say gentlemen or black love by the whigs but dulli is a great songwriter and he’s proved that again with the twilight singers.

Agreed, that Outkast song brought the fucking roof down. Let’s hope that it gets released on a b-side (bonus track) or something on a single.

Hey marja, this one’s for you and for all the others who love Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan.
