T? in Tunbridge Wells

#

Started by Alex

So I was lucky enough to get a ticket for yesterday’s gig in Tunbridge Wells. The Forum is very small — capacity of about 250 people. I’ve always wanted to see T? in a very small venue, this was my chance, and I did, and I doubt it will ever happen again!

OK… so what happened — no support, the band came on about 9:30pm, started with He’s Not That Kind Of Girl.

The other songs were, in probably not the right order, and I may be missing some (definitely missing one I think)…

Church Of Noise, Bad Karma, Wall Of Mouths, Die Laughing, Screamager, Little Tongues First, Stories, Isolation, Teethgrinder, Nowhere

They went off for a few minutes and came back with Fat Camp — the first time it has ever been played before an
audience, although EvilElvis was lucky enough to hear them play it at the soundcheck too. Very cool song indeed.

Then came Potato Junkie — the first verse and chorus in a slow swing stylee. They finished off with Knives — they let
some kid come up from the audience to sing it. He was very good for the first verse/chorus — visibly putting everything into it,
but then he became starstruck and fluffed a lot of the words. Fun anyway.

And that was about it. If I remember correctly, they only played just over an hour which is a shame, because EvilElvis caught Andy in the KFC before
the show and Andy said that there was no curfew and they would play as long as the audience wanted. It’s a shame they didn’t have a ‘requests’ section
to the show - I would have liked to have heard the likes of Punishment Kiss and Straight Life amongst others. I even thought oldies like Summer Of Hate might
come out, but sadly this wasn’t to be.

So, cracking show, exhausting show, only down side, they didn’t play nearly long enough.

Oh, erm… Ten Year Plan was on the set list for the last number of the main set, but they never played it.
God knows why the gig was so short.

And I met Diamond Dave finally, the t-shirt man. And his name says it all, he’s a diamond geezer. Even if he does look a spitting image of John Thomson. I wonder if they are related? ;-)

Man, that was the best gig I’ve ever been to!
I was at the front the entire time, wearing a short sleeve white shirt
that Andy and Graham had signed for me, I was holding my friend Wayne (the canadian guy) up to reach the mike so that he could sing bits of screamager. I believe Andy was attempting a cornish accent for potatoe junkie as I had requested of him earlier that night whilst he was doing a bit of signing, He signed my Infernal love with ‘straight outta somerset lov Andy’.

Incidently, you may be interested to know that they played Kung Fu (by Ash) when they were soundchecking but forgot the chorus and stopped halfway through.

Anyway, you’re a T? fan in T-wells so I probably know you anyway and hope to see you in the pub in a few hours. I’m the one with blonde (used to be bright blue) hair and 2’ roots. Laters!

Na, I’m not local to T-Wells… I live about 65 miles away.

I was up the front too, wearing an orange t-shirt, looking very
exhausted… :-)

They didn’t play Ten Year Plan in the end did they, unless I’m going mad?

Well, Diamond Dave’s real name is Dave Thomson. Coincidence?
By the way, he intoduced Wilt at the Witnness festival and was
supposed to introduce Therapy? but the fat bastards were 5 minutes
late and left poor Dave waiting by the side, and after all that, he
didn’t have time to introduce them! Another thing, why are Therapy?
gigs so fucking short these days? and why the fuck have they dropped
Nausea? and why do they still play shite like Die Laughing and Church
Of Noise that bores everyone shitfaced? Give us some surprises lads!
Bring back shit like Punishment Kiss, Born Too Soon etc…

It’s a shame if all their gigs are getting short… they should be working harder for their money ;-)

Hopefully when they come to London this autumn, they’ll have seen these comments and decide to play a longer set and bring out some of the songs they haven’t played for ages. They should be proud of their older material.

A lot of people, like myself, weren’t into T? when they were touring their earlier albums, like Nurse, so there’s so many songs we haven’t heard live, and it would be good to hear them…
