The Top10 Oldschool Punk Poll

#

Started by Sir Kyle

Okay I got my favorites, but too stupid to choose the best. (Why the hell should I do that anyway?)

But lets have a poll anyway…
THE TOP10 OLDSCHOOL PUNK POLL

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

The Damned - first punk band to release a single, and the best too. Closely followed by The Clash, who also appear to have been omitted from your list!

The Clash are my favourite punk band of all time, old school or not. But in their absence I’ve chosen the Dead Kennedys.

What a nice poll you set up!
It was a really close decision between Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys, but Jello Biafra won (but only ‘coz I’m too drunk to fuck :))

Title: Punk Songs

I think my fav Punks songs are Neat neat neat by The Damned and Shot from both sides by Magazine- love the way that guy sings, and Bodies by the sex Pistols is probably the maddest song ive heard.
I really hate that shite that came out after this era, Y’know like The exploited and GBH, i see a craze with people here where they all dress the same with red mohawks and studded leather jackets, just to look hard and they always have these shitty band names written on there jackets with tippex. Jackasses.

I don’t think punk is dead at all.
If you listen to some of the bands played on the webradio at http://www.maximumrocknroll.com, then you’ll find some great bands outta the good old traditions.

In Denmark we got bands such as Young Wasteners and No Hope For The Kids who are playing old style punkrock as good as they did in the late 70’s.

As I wrote before the board only allows polls with a maximum of 10 opportunities.
I really like The Pistols and Bad Religion too (Only the old singles with Bad Religion - Their newer material is too pop’ed to me).

But hey, let’s finish this poll an make a new one feature more old punx. Maybe we can end up with a top 5 in the end and vote for the best of them…

It has always been said that punk was a British thing. Can’t help noticing that the two bands in the lead in this poll are from the US.

The so-called ‘New York Dolls’ were actually from Tadcaster, and Joey Ramone was actually born in Ross on Wye. And Debbie Harry used to do babysitting in Byker before finding fame with Blondie, so yes, definitely UK.

And put that bottle down, somebody’s peed in it.
