inspired by not_that_kind_of_guy’s late night trawls through his cd collection…

I’d like to nominate the longpigs. anyone remember them? where are they now?

I’d like to add a few if it’s ok.

God Lives Underwater
Carolines Spine
Discount (um, ok, so they released their last one on 1/25/00, but I figure it’s close enough)
Failure (though YOTR is a good enough replacement)
Hum
Morphine
Portishead
Soul Coughing (no new material since ‘98)
The Caulfields (shaddup! They rock)

Well, that’s my list. I figured I didn’t need to say Nirvana, considering what day it is and all. Take care :)

How about co.uk (might be 2000)?
Or The Driven?
Pulkas (I know they split, but what happened then?)
Dearly Beheaded (heard about Sleath, but…)?
Crazy Gods of Endless Noise (actually, not too bothered about these guys!)

There’s loads more too…

bad karma, I have that album - it wasn’t as brilliant as “the sun is often out”, but still pretty good. whatever happened to crispin hunt afterwards?

pulkas split? I have their album, it’s a bit on the heavy side for me, but ok for that… they did a pretty good live show, the singer was well scary.

isn’t someone from co.uk in some other moderately successful band now? (don’t you hate it when you vaguely retain incomplete scraps of information… )

The topic was “GREAT lost bands” not “Thank God they’re lost bands”. And you forgot some of those Euro shit combos. ;)

Personally I fucking hated Coal Chamber but that “Loco” video was on Superrock every fucking week. Glad to see they’ve gone. Bet Daz is regretting that tattoo on his arm right now :)

Not too many “great” lost bands of the 90’s in my opinion. But I’ll mention one. Faith No More. They split in the 90’s, but formed in the ’80s, so do they count?

J Mascis is doing his solo stuff (which still sounds like Dinosaur Jr) under the name of J Mascis & The Fog.

it’s rough isn’t it. most people assume that T? finished up after troublegum or infernal love.
I rememeber seeing an artilce in a guitar mag abuot 5 years ago that asked ‘whatever happened to’ and they put T? in there too, saying that they once had a hit with a song called ‘nowhere’.
that was it, and this after they’d released semi-detached.
i pity all those people who think t? are no more.

i think the first whale album had some great tracks, but what i heard from the second one was pretty awful. not in my top ten of the most missed bands, but still quite good.

Mmm, on a a similar subject, I’ve met loads of people who have never heard of T?, but I have never met anyone who had that actually didn’t like them. The worst was something like: “Therapy? Yeah, they’re pretty cool, I suppose.”

So my twisted logic is that if everyone had heard of them, everyone would like them… Not sure that’s a good thing, but it does put in my mind the idea of Therapy Missionaries, travelling the world, and spreading the word. Doing the Good Bands’ work…

“And ye, verrily, did not the Good Lord of Rock look upon the flock and say: ‘Welcome to the Church of NOISE!!’”

I know it’s unimaginable but it’s true.
I’ve played them their stuff and they’ve seen them live but both still despise them.
How do you not like therapy? after seeing them live?
One of them is a big Ill Nino and Disturbed fan though so I suppose he has no taste.

By the way does anyone know whatever happened to co.uk? they supported T? once then changed their name to co_dot, played the first witnness and were never seen again? at least by me anyway.

Lauren Laverne went on to pretend to be a talented presenter instead of a sad mackam. Don’t care what happened to the fat & ugly one or the bloke, but the other girl was quite fit - probably also another sad mackam though.

Started good, did some good songs (Farewell to Twilight), but were a bit too pop-punk too early

Alan might know

Bad Karma wrote:

60ft Dolls

Split up due to an argument over who finished te beer. Think one of them went into production

Bad Karma wrote:

The Longpigs

Think someone else covered them

Bad Karma wrote:

Madder Rose

Bad Karma wrote:

Sneaker Pimps

Still about? Without annoying/gorgeous woman, depending on your point of view

Bad Karma wrote:

Theaudience

Disappeared on the grounds that Sophie E-B realised that fit-lass-and-dull-blokes wouldn’t sell as well as fit-lass-on-her-own. She apparently rents her chin from David Coulthard, which is why you never see the two of them together.

Bad Karma wrote:

Radish

Eaten?

No idea, porobably disbanded. Drank too much anyway.

Bad Karma wrote:

Geneva

Never heard of them in the first place, sorry

Bad Karma wrote:

Think they released 3 albums in total? Not sure, as only got the first (or possibly the second). When they were bad, they were v dull, but when the were good (like on Untouchable) they were fantastic. Very underrated band.

yeah, the 60 ft dolls were cool! I believe richard parfitt has made a solo album or two. no idea what happened to the other guys.

sneaker pimps are indeed alive and well though without kelli… forgotherlastname. they released an album in 2002 (I think) called “bloodsport”, which was excellent; the album before that, “splinter”, wasn’t bad either.

and as for geneva, I was recently informed that andrew montgomery’s singular voice can now be heard in a band called amityville (http://www.amityvilleuk.com - unfortunately down right now).
