Read It Immediately (Virus Warning)

#

Started by Nitro

I’ve just received an e-mail from T? Mailing list, with the subject “Read It Immediately”. There’s a zip folder attached. I think it’s another virus. If you receive anything like it, don’t open it.

Or if it’s really from T?, somebody should warn us!

Cheers

Yeah me to guys. Could mean that the virus is on the server which this site is hosted from. It’s probably gone to everyone on the mailing list.

Title: worm.somefool aka netsky

I can confirm that there was a virus (worm) sent over the mailing list. Luckily my mail server blocked it. To get rid of it, try the removal tools from Symantec (http://www.sarc.com) or stinger from McAfee

A virus has indeed been sent out to the mailing list address this morning and I am currently investigating how this happened. In the mean time, I have temporarily removed all mailing list subscriptions until I find the cause, to prevent this from happening again.

Here’s what I’ve just sent out on the list myself:

“I regret to inform you that an e-mail containing the W32.Netsky.B@mm virus has been sent out to all subscribers of the Therapy? mailing list approximately 1 hour ago. The subject of the message is “read it immediately” and the body text is “here, the cheats”. It contains an attachment called “part2.zip”.

DO NOT OPEN THE E-MAIL AND/OR ITS ATTACHMENT.

If your computer has been infected with the virus, go here for removal instructions:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.netsk … .tool.html

I have not yet been able to track down the exact source of the e-mail and how it was sent out on the mailinglist without my authorization, but please be assured that I will do everything in my power to find out. I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and will take all steps necessary to prevent this from happening again.”

Cheers Rene, don’t apologise, it isn’t your fault that there are sad arses round the world who want to screw people’s computers up.
That said, our firewall did not allow the email to come through, so I don’t know how bad it could have buggared things up!

I didn’t know anything about it until getting Rene’s follow-up email, but I don’t know if it only went to some addresses or if some software blocked it (I’m on AOL). Either way, pretty quick reactions from Rene, which is a cool thing. Hope it’s not caused you too much trouble mate!

Never got the infected message, but I appreciate the e-mail with the warning. Thanks Rene! Nice to see the T? family taking care of each other (except of course for the f***s who sent the virus).

I switched over to broadband today and seemed to immediately contract worm/lovsan.A - is that connected to this, or just a coincidence?

It’s not connected to the virus sent out on the mailing list, and I doubt it’s connected to your new broadband connection. Viruses are not directly connected to your type of connection, but come from an infected piece of data like an e-mail attachement or a file downloaded from a website.

Have you managed to remove the virus from your computer? Let me know if you need any help.

Yeah, after a bit of tinkering and searching for stuff on the web, I think it’s gone as it’s no longer being a problem, but cheers for the offer :)
