My Band in Therapy? support competition

#

Started by Red_Mist

My band recently entered a competition on BBC Radio Ulster’s, Across the Line, to win the chance to open for Funeral for a Friend & Therapy? on May 1st in Belfast. As you can guess im a fricking huge fan of both bands and we are delighted to have got through to the final 9 bands.

We go head to head in a demo derby with 2 other local bands on the 6th April @ 9:15pm and if your in NI you can tune your radio to 92 - 95fm or if your not log onto http://www.bbc.co.uk/atl to hear our fate.

As you can imagine, this would be a dream come true for us, but its up to a panel of judges to decide. You can check us out on http://www.manymoremusic.co.uk and listen to a few tunes.

Fingers crossed :)

LOL, yeah I was thinking of using that tactic myself, although maybe not the holding a gun to his head :D

Best of luck with your band dude, and if you fancy trading links that would be cool. That goes for all of you WoM’s in bands.

Here’s the rundown for those who care…

Well we didn’t win, a harsh hypocritical panel of judges put this dream of playing with Therapy? right out the window.

Every judge said we sounded like Therapy and that we’re trying to steal their jobs

One even called us the Therapy B-Sides, which was a little uncalled for, but even so if we’re half the band Therapy are and get half the success, we’re happy ;)

And we where also the only band in the comp with a WoM member and actual fans and it woulda actually meant something for us by playing with T?

Anyway the slating was a little uncalled for but we’re pro’s and can take it and if anything it has made us all more determined now, so im off to write the next T? b-side :D

To bad you didn’t win, it would be nice indeed to play for some WOM-members :)

Yeah we got a demo done, you can download a full track and some samples at http://www.manymoremusic.com

It was actually just the way they said it, it was kinda spiteful and disrespectful to us and Therapy? as if being like therapy and drawing influence from them was a bad thing (even tho it was a T? support competition)

Oh and I forgot to say they also said our song Feel for Something is a Screamager rip-off, but i don’t see the comparison myself?

No, I didn’t see the comparison either (don’t mean that in a bad way, though!). I guess it’s kind of a fine line saying that you sound like T? which is cool, and saying that you sound like T? which is derivative/unoriginal. I didn’t think you sounded like Therapy? in a rip off way at all, but in a _complementary_ way, yeah you did.

Just my opinion mind you.

Cheers dude, yeah you can hear the T? influence in there for sure, but we sure as hell didn’t sit down and re-write Screamager like they basically got at. You can also hear the older rock influences of Maiden & Sabbath and newer bands like F4AF etc, but i mean its hard to be original now a days anyway and everyones a critic ;)

I really would love to know how Therapy? got there break over here, cause it sure is a tough old business.

I still have to hear the first band without any influences. ‘Feel for something’ is defenitely not a Screamager rip-off. And a good song as well. Who were in the jury anyway? It’s obvious they don’t know T? at all.

But, don’t despair, you’ll get a second chance one day :D

Cheers, glad you like the tune. The jury consisted of a music journalist a entertainments manager and a music promoter, but what do they know ;)

too RIGHT! you said it man! a journalist, a manager and a promoter… that says it all. one of the reasons i gave up playing music. these people are only in it for the money, a few exceptions, i agree, but…
just checked out your song, good on ya and keep up the good work!

A quick prediction. I reckon bruce and the T? boys will do ‘Breaking the Law’ together. who agrees?

Yeah brucey picks the overall winner, but there was 3 weeks of heats with 3 bands in each heat and the winner from each heat goes into the final. Then the demo’s are sent off to Bruce and he decides which one he likes the best and then they get to open at the gig.
