Has anyone seen “lost in Translation”? I thought it was a great intelligent movie with the right mix of emotions (without getting too “heavy”) and some great humour. Lip my stockings…

BTW Did anyone see “The Passion of the Christ” and what did you think of it.

I don’t know if I want to see this film in the cinema. I hear really bloody stories about this film. Some people even thought that it was over the top and started to laugh because it was just too much.

What’s your opinion?

i haven’t seen lost in translation yet but would like to. i don’t like those kind of romantic comedy type films usually but anything will Bill Murray in it must be good as the man is quite simply a comic genius. a very under-rated one aswell. unfortunately.

with regards to the passion of the christ, anyone who wants to see it i recommend reading the book first, it’s relatively well known. you may have heard of it. :D

I was expecting bad things from Lost In Translation - i am not a romantic comedy type person - but I really enjoyed this film, was nothing like i was expecting it to be. It has a great soundtrack to - got me listening to My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus & Mary Chain again…

Lost in translation is brilliant. It’s definitely not a ‘romantic comedy’. It’s brilliantly shot with understated performances. I found it quite dark in places. ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ it’s not. Go See…

Yeah - I think Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine put the soundtrack together for the film,

I’m not too enthusiastic about Lost in Translation, there’s no real story or plot in it, I thought it was quite boring actually. It has its moments though, Bill Murray is one of the funniest actors around, that’s for sure!

Regarding The Passion of the Christ: I thought it was a very disturbing, ‘wrong’, and pointless film. Why would you want to show the last hours of Christ as told in the bible as bloody and violently as possible, with as many close-ups and slow motions as possible to make things even more horrible? It’s one of the worst films I have ever seen! Plus I think films like this are quite ‘dangerous’ from a religious point of view, cos this film blames the Jews for Christ’s death.

Because people tend to forget how horrible the crucifixion was. If you look at most paintings depicting the crucifixion they are all relatively clean and with halos.. the film ruins the romantic image and brings it to reality as a reminder of the suffering Jesus went through.

3 words: Freedom of speech. People who hate Jews do so regardless of this film. Most people know this story already. It’s not like it has a surprise ending.

Not speaking as a Christian, but the idea is that Jesus suffered for our sins. That’s kind of the point of the crucifixion, so, as Joe (Right?) says, a lot of the time it’s sanitised, which is self-defeating. Jesus looking like he has dozed off on the cross is pointless. Anyway, as I say, I’m no Christian. <shrugs>

Title: The wicker man

This movie involves a sort of crucifixion which is quite disturbing, great movie.
I think films like passion of christ show what little power religion must have these days, could you imagine releasing such a thing a few hundred years ago (obviously it would have been impossiblw anyway), you would have been straight to the guillotine.
I’m not one for censorship but i think, with christ being an icon which so many people base their whole lives around it is foolish to make a gory vision of his demise and perhaps such movies shouldn’t be allowed to be released.
I do not see sid viscous as an icon or anything but i didnt like the film sid and nancy because it generally made sid viscous like a total knob, which he could well have been but, does it give a director who’s set to reap huge profits the right to depict him as one to millions of people, just because he isn’t around to say otherwise?
I think the film Titanic wasn’t right either as making a movie out of a real disaster and dressing it up as a silly love story is a bit low to me, would a film about an office romance during the twin towers incidents go down well?

I really liked Pirates, Johnny Depp is great in it. Saw Urban Legend last night, which went on a bit long, but at least it was better than a slasher called Valentine.

That was the good thing about the film in my opinion! It would have spoiled the film if it ended in a love story.

I liked it just the way it was.

Went to see Lost in… last night. I really liked the way they depicted staying in Japan as a foreigner. A good mix of beauty, crazy, surreal and funny. I’ve been on business to Tokyo myself and the karaoke scene made me nearly piss myself. Very true cool film.

Has anyone seen the 1997 movie “Event Horizon”? It’s depiction of ‘hell’ is seriously fucking disturbing. Kind of like how “Passion of The Christ” makes you think twice about crucifiction, “Event Horizon” makes you realise how chaotic and fucked up our lives could be if we were living in a different parallel - total hell. I only saw it for the first time last night ‘cos a mate was raving about it… it definately makes you think

Yeah, that was cool, I’ve got it on video somewhere. Most of the people I know didn’t like it though, the fools. It’s got that whole ‘Hellraiser meets Alien’ thing going on. I love the aesthetics of that ship.

Has anyone seen ‘Sphere’? I think that’s what it was called. It had a very similar story, but wasn’t really horror. I think Dustin Hoffman was in it..
