Pukkelpop 2000

I nearly survived this Therapy? concert. The number of crowdsurfers was enormous and I hate them all. I just couldn’t enjoy the gig at all. Every fuckin’ minute some shoes landed in my face. From now on, I don’t catch those motherfuckers anymore, they can drop dead if they want to.

To Therapy? : stop playing Die Laughing, Nowhere and Screamager … I’m so fuckin’ tired of those songs. Bad Karma Follows You Around is a good song btw …
The playlist was very short and in my opinion not good enough for T?. Again the same playlist … make some changes please, this is Belgium for cryin’ out loud …

After the gig, andy just smashed his guitar on the floor, completely bananas man, why do they do this ? Graham had to throw Michael’s bass in his bass drum … etc etc …
If you don’t need those instruments anymore, give them to me … :-)

Hope to see a better gig next time, this one was a little disappointing …

Hello Innocent X,

That T?-show indeed was too fucking short!!! And the old fans would like to hear Neck Freak, Opal Mantra, Potato Junkie, Totally Random Man, Teethgrinder,…

Andy, if you’re reading this: make it up to us on the 14th of October!! This is fucking Belgium, remember??? Please play some old songs too!

is the guitar smashing a thing he’s being doing recently or did he do it back in the troublegum days too?

They’ve done it some years ago during their Troublegum tour as well at Rock Werchter. After that gig, they almost smashed everything within their reach … guitars … the decoration on stage … sorry man … but I just can’t get that …
If you feel like kicking something, just use a boxing ball (or how do you call these things ?)…

innocent i’ll tell you why he doesnt give his guitar away. after he finishes smashing it up his guitar tech builds it up for him again so he can smash it at the next show. that’s how it really is.
kurt used to do it too andy is a fan maybe paying respect or just keeping tradition alive.

it’s nothing to do with tradidtion, or respect for mr Cobain, or any other musician. I’m a guitarist and I’m in a band, it’s all to do with the huge buzz you get when your on stage, I know it sounds silly, but you become really involved in the music (look at Jimi Hendrix for instance)and you almost feed off it! I’ve almost smashed my guitar several times, but then remembered how much it cost me and stopped before any damage was done! It’s all about the feeling you get when you play, or listen to music, it’s not just putting on a show.
I do agree about those old troublegum songs though.
see ya guys.

err not everyone does it. jimi hendrix and pete townshed had a reputation of doing it. jimi started it. as much as it might be about feeling good it is also a statement- a statement of not giving a fuck about instruments- having the courage to break and smash what you hold sacred is very liberating.
apart from jimi no one else used to do it a lot but when kurt came on the scene it became a thing to do again. maybe that’s where andy picked it up from( he is a fan). who know’s?
p.s by the way i’ve seen a lot of footage from the troublegum days and not even once did i see him smash his guitar. seems like a recent thing to me.

Fair enough. I was just adding a comment to the conversation and maybe it is a new thing that Mr Cairns has added to the new t? shows, I don’t know as I have never seen any performances by therapy?, but I am hoping to change all that, when they do there next tour.

(where did you get this all this troublegum footage??)

Oh by the way, I wasn’t saying that every guitarist smashes their guitar.

i’ve noticed how its a singer guitarist thing. ‘guitar god’ types like malmsteen van halen tommorello dont seem to do it. (jimi’s an exception but then jimi is a songwriter too).
it’s something you just do you dont plan on doing it. you can tell who’s faking it.
