Eurovision Song contest !

#

Started by needsometherapy

I know that loads of you would slag me off for opening this but I can’t help it I had to. So I say:

ATHENA’s (the Turkish entry song) FUCKIN ROCKS !!!! I think it is great fun and a ska-punk entry is definetely the way to go !!!

Good on the Germans and Dutch ( I am sure loads of you voted for it) they gave top marks to the tune.

Also funny is for me as a Greek to like a Turkish song (and actually their name ATHENA is a Greek godess), but unlike some I have nothing against the Turks !!!

Especially after giving me MY TUNE OF THE WEEK.

Rock on the Turks! Thanks!

P.S. I wonder how come the UK gave the Greek entry max points.. After all their dirt and slagging off about our preperations for the Olympic Games … It is a strange world indeed…

That’s absolutely ok. I somewhat felt the need to discuss it as well. ;)

I ordered the first album of ATHENA today. I liked the song very much and voted for them.

Glad someone outside Germany liked Max and his song. He’s one of our No. 1 heroes at the moment, ;) and many people were very dissapointed he ended up only on 8th place. It’s a good song and a great voice. I’m afraid some countries didn’t vote for the songs but for the neigbourhood. :rolleyes:

BTW: I also wondered why Greece was voted so high. No offence, but it was a lot of hopping and bouncing with some music for elevators. (And I could imagine You felt that as well, huh?)

well, the voting is always a mystery of the song contest,and it’s always the wrong one who wins.

all i can remember about the winner was their costumes!
and that the music was some samey eurodance-trash.

is that the recipe to score a hit?i don’t think that song will chart anywhere but in the east.

Yes sure.. The voting system and considerations is shit … Voting for the neighbour, I totally agree. So I won’t get into the voting and that shit. It is Eurovision anyway … 1st or last is the same. The most about is what song EACHONE likes. So ATHENA came 8th, but for me they should be first. No more comments on the voting cause it is not worth it.

Greek entry was voted 3rd. If I did listen to that kind of music I would give it a 7/10 for the wole presentation. For me the song was highly rated:

1. Cause the bookies had it as favorite
2. The gorgeous big boobs dancers
3. The good looking male singer that drives women nuts in Greece
4. The Olympic Games coming up
5. The fact that in Turkey they do like Greek music (and the other way round)

No offence to my country’s entry (especially as the writer of the song is a good friend of mine by the way) but we will never win the competition if we didn’t do this year. I think they thought that tha No1 siger in Greece will do it (only because of his looks and moves) but the song was indeed weak.

But what the fuck am I talking about? This competition is shite anyway to discuss about results etc. It’s only about the music itself.

Which surpisingly enough comes to my tastes. I will never forget the Austrian entry last year (THAT WAS THE BEST EUROVISION ENTRY EVER !!!! the guy rocked big time and was also taking the piss even bigger !!!!) and this year ATHENA.

Keep it real everybody out there and lets see more entries such as these in the upcoming years…

Piece…

the turkish entry was my fave too.just cos it was good music and not about showing skin.

well, there have been more entries that were taking the piss…like the german entries from 1998 (guildo horn) and 2000 (stefan raab)

How is the entry for each country decided? and are there restrictions on the act that enters? (other than lack of real talent)

I mean - couldn’t we enter Cradle Of Filth just to see what happened one year?

here in austria,it’s a mini-version of the contest itself-you call in for your fave.of the selection that the ORF made.

now that’d be something refreshing for a change :D

Not personally, but I’ve been watching them since 1994. They started in 1991 as thrash-power metal band. (By the way, the guitar player and the singer are twins!) In 1992 they released “Horror Dimensions” demo. Then, in 1994 they released “One Last Breath”, which was a cool power-thrash metal album with one punk song. Then, they decided tto change their style, first they started to play punk, then changed to ska. They played in a small club called Captain Hook for years, where they made lots of fans.

In 1998 released the self titled album: Athena which includes lots of cool Turkish Ska songs. In 2000 they released their second album: Tam Zamani Simdi (Now is the Time).I think it’s their best album. In 2001, they made a song called “12 Dev Adam” (12 Giant Men) for Turkish national basketball team. After the release of this single, bass player and the drummer left the band. The twins found two guys for the band and released their last album: Hersey Yolund (Everything’s Alright).

The last thing they made is the song for the Eurovision.

Here are some names of the good songs by ATHENA:
* Skalonga
* Bazil
* Holigan
* Hersey Guzel Olacak
* Tam Zamaný Simdi
* Iki Lafa Dustun Ortaya
* Don Baba Donelim
* Yawwass Yawwass
* Bak Takilmana
* Sen De Yap

By the way, I love them for 2 rasons:
1. They make good music
2. They support FENERBAHCE!!!!!

But these are the only shightseeing that exist in Turkey. All Greek cause our civiliazation was there until the destruction of the Greek community. All started with the fall of Byzantium in 1451 but the Greek influence was there from huderds of years before…

:D I always had that problem … 1453 was the year that Glasgow University was established and I studied there. I always made that date marked close to the Fall of Constantinopole…
