3 Colours Red on Radio 6

#

Started by Steve L

As the official band messageboard still seems to be down and I know 3CR fans frequent this site, I thought I’d post this info here!

From the Mighty Atom Records website: -

“3CR are being interviewed on the Bruce Dickenson show on Radio 6 this Saturday (29th May) at 11pm and will be playing new tracks from the new album.”

Can’t wait for the new single “The World is Yours” out on June 7th, and the forthcoming July tour.

The video is listed on Scuzz TV, but I haven’t seen it played yet. Has anyone caught it?

I think 3 Colours Red are a great band but i thought they split up after ‘Revolt’. Has anybody heard the new songs? and do they still have the twin guitar assault of the ‘Pure’days or have they taken different directions?

For all German 3CR fans:
they’re playing at Ibbenbüren (not too far away from Münster) on Saturday, June 5th as special guest at the Donots 10th anniversary open air.

Fucking brilliant! And on my birthday too :D I met the guys when I interviewed them last year (a transcription of which was up on their official messageboard) and they were great guys, really funny.

Not seen the video for “The World Is Yours”, but I’ve got a recording of it from a Radio 1 Rock Show performance they did. The song is a mid-paced grower, complete with a Nick Drake-esque (Pete’s words) middle eight. I think it rocks. It’s not as intense as “Pure” or “Nuclear Holiday”, but it’s a great, uplifting song.

PSYCHO SI - Yes, they split up after ‘Revolt’, but reformed in 2002 and replaced Ben Harding with new guitarist Paul Grant. They’ve done a few UK tours and have released a single called “Repeat To Fade”. It’s a pretty good song. It’s got a U2 meets Nine Inch Nails-feel IMO. Other new songs I’ve heard are “FCKU”, which I thought was… OK. “Counterfeit Jesus” is also great. My fav of the new songs is “Made In Indonesia”. It’s fast, catchy, bouncy.. basically the 3 Colours Red we all know and love.

Is that Joe_S, btw? I’m The Evil One over at 3coloursred.co.uk. Sucks that the board’s been down for ages!

Yeah, I wasn’t too hot on FCKU either, though I do have the t-shirt. Gotta be honest, I hope it only ends up as a b-side. I loved Land Of Debris though!

It is Joe_S indeed :D I much prefer Joe_S to this shitty nick, but I was drunk and needed the money :)

The Evil One? Cool. I know there’s a few people that post on both boards. Lemo for example.

Yeah it sucks the board’s been down for ages. I hope it’s nothing to do with the fight Pete had with a few board members :(

I liked FCKU the first time I heard it, but the second time I heard it I just didn’t think it was particularly good. I have the FCKU t-shirt too, but I prefer the 3CR t-shirt with Terrorist on the back. I hope it ends up as a b-side too :)

Haven’t been fortunate enough to hear “Land Of Debris” yet, but I’m buying the CD and the DVD when they both come out.

Jeezus! But Lemo was such a regular poster! I went away from the board for a few days, and missed all the drama! What was the gist of it? I thought it was kind of odd that they were playing smaller venues this time when they finally had an album to support, but blimey, it’s usually such a good-natured board, and it’s rare that a band member actually posts as much as Pete does!

someone made a remark pete didn’t take too well, so he stormed off in a huff, whereupon a fair few other people pointed out that he’d overreacted, whereupon he came back to inform us that we didn’t respect him and stormed off in an even bigger huff, taking two threads and eventually, it seems, the entire board with him.

something like that.

the new songs are amazing though…

I’ve had a search around the net and have come across a tracklist for the new album “The Union of Souls”: -

1. The Union of Souls
2. Repeat to Fade
3. The World is Yours
4. Desensitise
5. Counterfeit Jesus
6. Ceasefire
7. Made in Indonesia
8. Land of Debris
9. FCKU
10. Lullaby

I think the new single “The World is Yours” is backed by live tracks.

Though FCKU is on the album. Maybe it’ll grow on me! And they seem to have gone for the trademark ‘desensitise’ cliche…

Pete said he can’t release the actual Elevation album, as Sony owns it, but he keeps promising to release an album of acoustic versions and demos of the songs. Should be interesting, but I don’t think it’ll surface for a while, because he’s fully concentrating on 3CR at the mo. And nursing his wounds over the fall out with the board members, it seems…

So did anyone listen in?

“Union Of Souls” was different to what I was expecting - I dunno if that’s a good or bad thing. All the other tracks were as good as I remember them.

I thought the interview was pretty cool, but I dunno why they went on about the macro-economic effects of globalisation? Tbh it didn’t seem as if they knew what they were talking about. I did a degree in Business and Economics at uni (Snorefest 2003) and I just thought some of the arguments were a bit naïve.

well, I listened, but I have a tendency to automatically tune out of aimless conversations, so a lot of it, erm, passed me by… something about coffee, and about beer, I do vaguely recall. and also that pete had clearly done his bit for third-world economy by smoking the equivalent of a small nation’s annual weed output prior to turning up.

I was a bit baffled by “Union of Souls” too, but I think I’m going to like it once I get into it.

for anyone who missed it, btw, you can still listen at

http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/6picks/

click on “bruce dickinson rock show” under “you the controller” - 3cr music/interview starts about 33 minutes in. I think they usually stay up until the next one, i.e. you can listen until saturday (not sure though).

Yeah, Pete did sound a bit mellow…;)

I thought the interview was generally ok, but did wonder what the fuck Brucie was going on about for so long - he sure went on…and on…!

I liked the “Union of Souls” track, but am still not sure about “The World is Yours”.

I listened to the show through the satellite tv so I could record it on video tape and replay it (haven’t worked out how to record shows off the net yet - anyone know how?).

“Repeat 2 Fade” was great as always (but did he mean to play that one?!), and I did like “Made in Indonesia” which seemed to have the old 3CR sound.

I’ll certainly get the album when it comes out in July, and catch some of the tour dates.

Could someone tell me how to record off the web? Cos I can’t seem to be able to do it. I downloaded a few programmes, but none of them seem to be able to record for more than a minute unless you buy the proper version.

Wow, that’s THE Bruce Dickinson! I didn’t know he has a rock show and interviewed all these cool people (Ginger, Cheap Trick, 3CR, …).

There’s another Bruce Dickinson in the world of rock. I think he’s a producer or something.

Anyway, may I suggest this little song to every 3CR fan:

“List” by The Fags

It’s catchy as hell and sounds like punkish U2.

Isn’t the single meant to be out on Monday? Confused now, you’d think the 3CR site would have sth about it, but they seem to make announcements on the board before the main page…

there’s an announcement on http://www.mightyatom.co.uk/labelindex.html (you have to scroll down a bit, it’s underneath the 3cr tour dates), but I can’t seem to find the single at any of the online shops - including mighty atom’s own one…

I hope this new album does well, but things have moved so slowly for the boys since they reformed that I’m beginning to have doubts. Sure, they only reformed 2 years ago, but their last album was 5 years ago. That’s a long time to be away from the public eye if you want to maintain a level of success - I guess it’s good that they built up a grass-roots fanbase who didn’t just get into the band because of “Beautiful Day”.
