Idiot’s guide to rock’n’roll

I’ve had a guitar for about 8 years, but never remotely learned to play it. I recently got it out of storage (i.e. my parents’) & am tempted to give it another go - any suggestions for hour to go about it for a not-desperately (muscially anyway) talented would-be Cairns?
