Pukkelpop

#

Started by OK!

This week it’s Pukkelpop in Kiewit (Belgium): the best three days of my year! Half a year ago I said: I’m going even if it has to be alone. Very very very unfortunately this last one seems to come true :( :( None of my friends are going and my brother only comes on Saturday…

Anyway, I’m still going and it will be great!!

If you want some info about this festival http://www.pukkelpop.be is the place to be!

By the way, I heard today that the surprise act at Rimpelrock (the old brother from Pukkelpop :D ) was Eddy Wally

Damn’ if I had known that in advance :D … yeah I know, it’s not called a surprise act anymore in that case :p

No Seriuos, just to see the reaction of the crowd and personally I think the reaction would be rather positive …

I just got some good news from a friend: he’s going to pukkelpop after all! For some reason he isn’t going to France like he said before. :)

Please give a report about Soulwax. They’re playing in Bochum in about two weeks and I consider going there. The new album got good reviews but seems to have more electronic sounds on it.
Enjoy the festival.

If you’re keen on seeing Franz Ferdinand, make sure you go and see The Killers. They make Franz Ferdinand look like amateurs and that says more about The Killers than about Franz Ferdinand.

I can only go on Thursday so I’ll have to miss out on the Darkness (probably they’ll play the exact same set as they did in Werchter so in fact I won’t miss a thing) but at last I’ll get the chance to see one of my favourite bands of all time live for the very first time: Ash.

Well, I’m too polite to sleep (I wonder how roxy can, I’d be too scared with you behind the steering wheel :p ) so we usually listen to good music and sing along (you could call us the nightmare express).

To get back on topic, there was already an intervention of the fire brigade needed at the festival because there was a little bit too much water coming down from the sky all of a sudden :D

Yes, I survived the three days on Pukkelpop. It was really fantastic, that sphere on pukkelpop is ten times better then the one on werchter. This was also the first time in three years there was no water in my tent!

I tried to see as much bands as I could (sitting still on a festival is not good for me :)). Here is a list of the bands I saw, if you want to know something about one of the shows tell me, I’ll let you know!

Sa:mint, nailpin, girls in hawai, fokoffpilisiekar, franz ferdinand, graham coxon, soulwax, lambshop, the bronx, felix da housecat, the white stripes, 2 many dj’s

Soulwax disappointed me a bit.:( Not the music they played, it was really good. There is indeed a bit more electronic sound in it (a trace of 2 many dj’s?). But they couldn’t get the crowd moving. When I saw them several years ago (werchter) you could see they had a lot of fun on stage. This time they all looked so serious, like they were afraid of doing something wrong (I dunno). They said they were nervous because it was the first time in 4 years they were playing in Belgium again. I really hope it was just that and that it will pass.

One little detail: they lights on the belgian highways aren’t lit anymore at night (only on the drive outs they are still on). It’s the only wise decision the government took in years to do some savings.

To be honest, I ‘m not a really big fan of the music of papa roach. I went to see him because the people who were with me really want to go and see. He ask in the beginning of the set to turn the bass guitar louder (with effect, you could feel it trembling). The show wasn’t too bad:there was a good interaction with the crowd, the people where jumping and there were some circle pits. The music: it was Papa roach like I knew it from the radio: hard and shouting.

I would like to know what The Killers were like live as they are my absolute favourite band of the moment (at least until NANE comes out) and on Goformusic I couldn’t find a review nor a setlist of their show.

I saw Ash on live streaming and they made me regret my decision to sell my ticket.

I went only on friday, and it was great. I saw a bit of the darkness, but after two songs I couldn’t take it anymore, so I ran as fast as I could :) to see Ultrasonic 7. A nice belgian band with the former singer of soapstone (an even nicer belgian band, but they split up which is a real shame)

Then some Mark Lanegan. Oh my god, does that man have a weird voice, but I liked it.

i really liked dEUS. Tom Barman has finally put his ego a aside and played a rocking show.

Twilight Singers were the best. The drummer was like Animal from the muppets, really funny to watch. And Greg Dulli, well what can I say, he was just Dulli. His charisma along with some great guitar and piano bits, what do you need more to have a great night? He can play me anytime :)

@marja: Did Mark Lanegan join Greg Dulli or vice versa. As both have guest appearances on each other’s albums that would have been great.
Your boyfriend must be really jealous of Mr. Dulli. :)

@OK!: How were Mondo Generator? I know they cancelled a bunch of German shows on their current tour, as the rest of the band refused to play with Nick Oliveri after he beat up a sound guy at a gig. There were even rumours that this might be the end of the band.
Shame on you that you missed The Twilight Singers

Yeah Lanegan joined him for the song number nine. I don’t know if Mr Dulli joined him, because I missed a part of his show.

I read on the guttertwins website that their project has been put on hold, which is a real shame. I was looking forward to it. But on the other hand it means that there will be a new twilight album out next summer and a DVD.

and no, he’s not jealous. At least that’s what he tells me :)

Nono, I may have said something that could make him jealous :), but for the moment, Mr Dulli could never have me (not in that way ;)). But if a terrible thunderstorm may come across our lovely home and my boyfriend is hit by lightening and doesn’t survive, than, just maybe than, I would consider it :)

You must know what I mean. I can even remeber the exact moment when he got to me with his music (place, clothes, song, …). I bet you can say the same thing for T? or an other great band.

In VISIONS magazine there are even rumours that a new Twilight Singers album might yet be released this year, though I doubt it.

The first time you met one of your favourite bands is like the first time you met your love, there’s no difference to me.
So my first time with T?…can’t remember. :p :)

It’s the same with T?, I think they’re great but I don’t feel the urge to meet them.

Sorry, I epressed it a bit clumsily:
with meeting a band the first time you get into them, be it a live show, a track played on the radio, etc.

Meeting a band in person is a totally different thing. If you stumble into each other like making new acqaintances (Me and my friends met a bunch of wonderful Australians last night in a pub in Munich (it’s actually a Bierkeller, but I don’t know how to translate that appropriately), we had a brilliant evening) you’re just having a chat which is fine with me.
But I wouldn’t want to walk up to an artist to maybe even discuss his work or tell him how much that means to me, sounds a bit pathetic to me.

From what I can make of it Marja, you were an Afghan Whigs fan when they were still together, right?

If so, that is really great because I always got the impression that I was the only Belgian that was into them.

What’s your favourite album?

Mine may sound weird because it isn’t Gentlemen nor Black Love but Congregation. Their version of The Temple just makes the hairs in my neck rise.
