vienna gig 17th november - FLEX

#

Started by tatty seaside town

Hmmm what do you think about the venue?

I think it sucks for a T? concert. The sound is totally shit there. Never got better in the last 8 years either. A bit of low sound. A bit of tiny stage.

I will be there of course, but i Flex is indeed a club venue. So there will be not just T? fans there.

I don´t want to say, that it can´t be a good gig. Lets just see how it develops!

flex sucks big time, shit sound, shit stage!

If possible, the location should be changed: the ‘planet music’ and ‘szene wien’ come to my mind.

But I’ll be where ever t? plays in vienna, drink some beers and rock.

and on 17/11 sick of it all and the bones plus some others play in ‘arena’.

But despite of that I hope some people will show up in ‘flex’ :(

Let’s wait and see. But it’s not gonna be an easy competition to win for t? I’m afraid.

so, first of all, hello, i’m new here … :)

i’ve never been to the flex, but from what i’ve heard so far it’s pretty shitty (as a live venue at least …).
so i hope many TPY?-freaks show up to make it one hell of a show!

i’m going there with some friends and plan to spend the whole show in the front rows, though i know it can get pretty heavy with a viennese crowd, cos they can go really crazy … :D

Oh no, not “Planet Music”. I absolutely hate that venue. Szene sounds great, Arena would be even better!

I’m back. Sorry that I didn’t meet any of you guys, but I got my suspicions. vagabond, were you the guy that stage-dived twice??
tatty, I think you were banging right next to me (red irony? shirt)

Apart from that I met half of the people I got to know in vienna during the last four years. hot shit, baby!
to the show: It was fucking awesome! Judgeing by the faces of the band, it was their best gig on this tour so far, regarding the crowd response. the whole venue was a pit!, as far as i could see.
Cool moment: someone kicked andy repeatedly his mic into his theeth. As a fine the guy - called hans - had to sing die laughing. awesome job he did! the security was shite, but andy kept calming those fuckers down.

to put the whole thing short: the crowd was mad, the band was really up to it, andy made some highly entertaining remarks, I ‘m completly wet now, and I rate this show under my top 3 gigs I’ve ever seen.

only negative thing to mention: no surprise songs.
The setlist as I grabbed it:

CHURCH OF NOISE
UNBELIEVER
DIE LIKE AMF
ROCK YOU MONKEYS
IT IT KILLS ME
THIS SHIP IS SINKNING
NOWHERE
TEETHGRINDER
TURN
DIE LAUGHING
PERISH THE THOUGHT
RUST
RISE UP
LONG DISTANCE
POLAR BEAR
EPILEPSY
SCREAMAGER
________________

INNOCENT X
ISOLATION (including some unknown joy division song + she’s lost control)
KNIVES

that’s it. but somewhere along the set they also played TEENAGE KICKS in honor of john peel.

That’s it for now. Great show, great evening, ROCK ‘N ROLL!!

of course I forgot one song again: They did POTATO JUNKIE between epilepsy and screamager. Included was a nice remark from andy as this clapping game was going on (as seen on scopophobia): “make some fucking noise, or are you germans??” :D

Nope!

I don´t like the irony shirt! btw

I wasn´t in the front row, and i wasn´t in the middle either, if you were there?

Cool gig!

I didn´t study the set list, before the gig, cause i knew i wouldn´t expect any suprises.
I think they tried to do a song from babyteeth or pleasure death before isolation, cause the chords andy played, were pretty similar. I don´t know the song anymore i think of, cause i am a bit drunk :(

Hans ruled :)

I did liked Innocent X … and Epilepsy … didn´t hear that live since 95!

Especially i liked this one girl with this pony tails. There was just one girl with this sweetie pony tails. Couldn´t ask her for a autorgraph, cause i didn´t see her anymore, when i left. But she was really sweet :)

Also who is the sweetie redhead doing the merchandise? :)

Enough from girls!

I really liked the gig. I liked it more than the one on the last tour in “planet music”.
I think mike was a bit pissed? Perhaps some trouble with his girlfriend? *lol*

He always seemed to be just playing, cause he gets paid for it? Well he jumped during Innocent X, which i quite liked. Like the good old days *g*

Lots of new stuff and some old stuff. I think its time the change the set list a bit. But i think they will do it in the middle of their tour?

Long distance is my fav from the album, but most of the people didn´t seem to enjoy it really? Dunno …

Great concert but Flex is shit. The first three songs i didn´t hear any bass sound at all. Also the bass sound i hear afterwards was complete shit. Where are the good old Status days? :)

Still thinking of the girl pony tails though … if you read this sweetie, please tell me you are the one for me :)
You had a friend (girl) with you. I think you came a bit before 8.00 pm … with you friend.

What a lovely night that was! ;)

hey up_in_flames, i wasn’t stagediving yesterday, so i wasn’t that guy. but i was banging, jumping, singing in the front rows!

what a damn fucking great show! i really really had a great time. the flex was packed and to me it seemed like the band really enjoyed the gig as well. i also had a (female) friend with me, who didn’t know tpy? before, but she liked it very much and the boys have a new fan now! ;)

the sound was surprisingly good, in the front rows at least. the crowd was up for it, crazy like viennese crowds usually are! :)

i saw them the fifth time now, and they seem to get better and better. neil is a hell of a drummer! i’m really impressed!

and tatty, you’re right, there were some sweet girls around … :D

the merchandise was great too, but a bit to expensive i think. but i just had to buy the “live like a fucker - die like a mf” - shirt and the lighter!

see ya!

PS: DOES ANYONE HAVE PHOTOS??? Please!!!

Title: Venue not that bad

What a great concert! Loved it when Hans (I think) was invited up on stage to provide vocals for Die Laughing, what a blast. I first saw TPY? back in the early 90s at Coventry University and the energy they had then is still there. I had thought that Flex would prove to be a shite venue for TPY? and was surprised that it turned out ok and the acoustics not that fucked up either.
The wife (and her friends) really enjoyed the show (cool as she has refused to join me over the last 7 years at a TPY? gig) and at last has stopped taking the piss out of my Irish accent, coool.
Had a great time and I hope TPY? are over this way for some of the festivals in the summer!!

Seems like the Flex was a great location for Therapy?. Dammit, I would have loved to see them there, especially since the last two gigs at Planet Music were a bit of a let-down. Arrrrrghh!

Did they sell any interesting CDs at the concert, by the way (Maxis, limited editions, etc.)?

You do? Great! I’m the guy who embraces Andy, who looks quite confused by that. I also bawl the refrain to “Nowhere” into the mic at some point. And during the end of the show when the microphon got handed to the audience, I’m on stage and a friend of mine who is in the audience grabs the mic and yells my name.

Hm, that was one great show!
