*no backlash please! this is MY opinion*
I think it’s usual thing for most of T?’s listeners, in exact for me.
I got into T? from the first listen only when bought Infernal Love and maybe SPYF. Semi-Detached was bought, I listened to it for the first time and thought: “WHAT THE …?!” After third listen I couldn’t let myself take it out of CDPlayer. As for me it’s the best their album: melodies are both heavy and beautiful, it’s fast and energetic. I simply love it! :D
The same story was when I got SHAMELESS. It’s “kicked” me after several listens and up to now I think this was their the most adult album to date. HA was too poppy or to explain better - too simple. HA is the only album I couldn’t listen a lot to. I haven’t heard NANE so far but hope that it’s much better than HA.

What does everyone think of the new T? album? I was a little dissapointed because it doesn’t really compare to ‘High Anxiety’, but nothing compares to ‘Infernal Love’…

cos high anxiety is shite! (in my opinion)
NANE is the business though apart from a few dodgy lyrics…
was it just me that was surprised by the poppiness of NANE though? after what some people had said, and hearing rise up, panic! and this ship is sinking online i was expecting some kindof cross between babyteeth and nurse. but it is more like a combination of troublegum, high anxiety, semi-detached with a wee bit of babyteeth and nurse. still think its great though…

What!!!!?????
No more drugs for this young man…;)
I respect your opinion but for me, Semi-detached is pop (lonely crying only, safe, heaven’s gate, chorus on church of noise and tightrope walker…) , but NANE is really fucking rock!!! (here the monsters, die like a motherfucker, save the sermon, panic…)

SPYF bollocks????
Are you drunk???
imho, since Troublegum SPYF is one of the best T? albums!
NANE is absolutely a second masterpiece (after Troublegum) and can stand the comparisson to Nurse and Babyteeth.
Can’t wait to hear the songs live, even rougher an harder than on CD.

me too, but so are hats off to the insane, troublegum, shameless (to an extent) and high anxiety. don’t get me wrong, they’re not exactly steps or anything, i mean that they are very melodic. rock, but nontheless pop, if you catch my drift. and i think a lot of songs off NANE fit that description. not least perish the thought and so-called life.
i thought the album was going to be kind of unlistenable like SPYF, babyteeth and pleasuredeath. which at the minute is my kind of thing. NANE is a lot more commercial than i was lead to believe. which isn’t necessarily a bad thing either…

I don’t think NANE is another masterpiece. In my ears it’s just a average T? album. I got every released album since Babyteeth and still to date it’s my opinion Babyteeth and Nurse are the best releases. I like the sound of SPYF and the great songs and lyrics on Infernal Love, but I’m much more into the noisy punk sound of the early releases.

Granted this is my the major labels hate them because they can’t pigeonhole them.
Which is why the majors blow!

Dude I dunno how u can say that. For a band to lose a member and more importantly a lead guitarist (well sorta) who had a great impact on their sound and then come back WITHOUT replacing said guitarist and better their last album is a testament to Therapy? and their infinite fuckin’ greatness my friend. High Anxiety is a great album with some cool tunes but i can’t put it on and not skip a track NANE is put on stays on and usually gets repeated listens. Rather than spelling the end for the lads of the T? I think it marks a new beginning which is refreshing these days.

They are for sure but with alot of metal inspiration also.
But maybe it’s a good idea that I listen a little more intense to the new album… I’ll give it another tryout today.

Only heard it a few times so far (thanks to being so skint I had to wait for my wife to buy it me - which she surprised me with, bless her xxx), but I have to say I haven’t “got” it yet. High Anxiety, at the moment, for me is way ahead.
Not that this makes for bad music either, but is it me or does Andy sound genuinely fucked up on this record? On previous albums the madness has been tempered with a humorous side, but here he sounds positively manic. Hope he’s OK!!

I think HA lacks a bit of substance and atmosphere. There`s if it kills me on it, which I like better than any song of NANE when I`m in good mood, but overall NANE is more solid. As for the sound itself, I think NANE is on the same level as Troublegum. I find Semi-Detached inferior to both production wise.

And I still think SP-YF is one of the most enjoyable albums that they have ever made,,,,and Graham Hopkins still rules as the ultimate T? drummer!

Title: My Tuppence Worth (merged)
Hello All :)
Post rarely but fancied stick my oar in here. Just really got into the depth of NANE. Got to admit it didn’t hit me with the immediacy of High Anxiety for example but I do have to admit that on the third or fourth play, this is the best thing Therapy put out since Semi Detached. There’s an intensity here I’ve not heard for ages, and I seem to be picking up a lot of The Pixies, a little Dead Kennedys, particularly on the solo breaks which are heavy on the treble. Nice dirty downtuned sound though, good distortion giving a raw sound.
However, two tracks stand out. Rise up appears to be a mega fast upgrade version of Turn. I kept thinking where have I heard that Chord Progression before? Turn at 100mph! Fucking works really well. I think I read Andy cited Ministry as an inspiration for this, but in my opinion. Off on a completely different tangent, are there any of you old enough to remember Thin Lizzy’s “Bad Reputation” or “Johnny the Fox” or “Suicide?” Smells familiar in structure and a fine inspiration!
And as for Long Distance, that has to be the most maturely crafted Therapy tune since Safe. It’s a work of brilliance. Very reminiscent of Bob Mould’s Guitar playing, particularly in Sugar. Bought everything by the lads since first hearing them and then seeing them in Cardiff in 94. Actually wearing my “Like it or Fuck Off” t shirt purchased at that Gig today!
Now I’ve got to say, best thing in my CD player this year (even though I’d list Ash’s outstanding Meltdown , Flogging Molly’s Drunken Lullabies and Veruca Salt’s 8 Arms to Hold You (not released this year but ace anyway) as close runners up too. Though I hugely enjoyed a Russian bootleg EBAY copy of Motley Crue’s Shout at the Devil!) (Yes. I’m 32 going on 15.)
DWM
PS Has anyone got a spare Punk Floyd shirt? Was going to buy one in Newport in 95 but was skint and never saw the buggers since.

I’ll have to say not too many potential singles there (Dead or Long Distance would be the strongest candidate in my opinion)
I’ve listened to it all the way through 3 times, and I’m on #4 right now.
I love this album! Each time I keep picking up something new. It’s sort of a mix of IL and SPYF. The SPYF comparison for the dirty, crunchy sound, but it’s like Infernal Love where it’s there most complete album since IL.
It may not have that stand-out catchy tune like Troublegum or HA, but listened into the context of the overall album, the songs work extremely well. Each song flows perfectly into each other.
I have to say the run of songs Polar Bear; Rock You Monkeys; Dead; Long Distance is as good a stretch of songs as T? has ever put together on an album.
I have to admit when I heard the free samples of Rise Up, This Ship is Sinking, and Panic, I wasn’t expecting much..damn was I wrong!
Well Done Boys!! :D
