High Anxiety or Troublegum????

#

Started by realityfuck (Richard Splash)

Which is better?

I ask cos when High Anxiety was released I introduced a friend of mine to T? and at the same time he picked up Troublegum. For someone who was new to T? and didn’t know their history he much prefered HA (I also think it’s better, but “don’t much prefer” it)

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

Infernal Love perhaps?

Maybe that’s a discussion for another thread on another day.

I’m the one to make bad jokes on this board. :p

I should have written:
For me, nothing beats Troublegum.

Just think of it this way: which album could have won me over to become a T?-fan? HA or Troublegum? I think that the answer is pretty obvious for the majority on this forum and for me personally I would doubt it if HA could have done the trick for me although it’s a classic and indispensable album. I got hooked on them thanks to the Shortsharpshock EP (thanks to the loud cover design because I bought it without hearing a single note of it, I just wanted to buy something cool to impress my bigger brother but he already had Troublegum (I bought SSS in April 1994)).
I listened to the EP and then stole his copy of Troublegum to replace it with a cassette of it.

But High Anxiety has alot of good tracks.

Hey Satan you Rock - always gets my vote and If it Kills me is a real toe tapper (K promise not to use that saying again tis a bit naff)

But can’t really deside which I Would perfer. For most it I’d stick on TroubleGum but still have a soft spot for High Anxiety

I prefer High Anxiety. Troublegum has never been one of my very favourite T? albums (it comes in at about number 6, I think), and High Anxiety I find is more solid in the number of tracks I like. I was introduced to the band through Semi-Detached, so that’s the one with nostalgia for me.

I prefer “High Anxiety” to “Troublegum”. I think HA has better songs on it, such as If It Kills Me, Not In Any Name, Stand In Line etc… the Troublegum songs are good too, but none of them stand out as special to me.

But my favourite albums are Suicide Pact & Caucasian Psychosis.

i think semi-detached is better than both these albums.

troublegum whilst it is a really good album is all in the same vein whereas SD is a lot more varied. and i don’t know about anybody else, but i think HA is a very average (if not weak) album only saved by the amazing stand in line, if it kills me and not in any name.

all these albums come in behind infernal love and babyteeth though. not sure where to put NANE, but think it’ll be pretty high up. still no babyteeth though!

i have to agree with richboy, i think high anxiety is pretty weak compared to their other albums, it just doesnt have that classic therapy? sound or feel. troublegum was an outstanding album, every single track could have been a single, good ones too, that’s how i feel about nane a very solid album that sounds like therapy? of old. wonder if i’ll feel the same way about it in 10 years

call me an aul fart if you like, but nothing beats Caucasian Psychosis… being in Northern Ireland at that time, watching them “go from the blue lamp disco to…” was a joy to behold.

gigs where andy would commandeer you at the door of the grotty place and offer you free entry if you’d help lift the gear inside

but failing that, Nurse could have been a classic but suffered from a lack of production.

Troublegum is my all time favourite album by any band, ever. Every single track is just brilliant.

Don’t get me wrong, I love HA, but its not a patch on Troublegum.

The T? CDs in my car CD changer right now are NANE, Infernal Love and Troublegum.

Tough HA is a brilliant record, it was troublegum that got me into the whole thing. Therefore I voted fro troublegum, one of my favourite albums of all times.

btw, my cousin took my original copy of it and lended it to some of his asshole friends. i guess it’s gone forever. I have to replace it *runs to the record store*

I’d probably going for HA as I played Troublegum to death in the 90s, and Screamager and Die Laughing are on SMFTTYP which tends to make it into my car much more than Troublegum. Would hate to have to give up either though.

Troublegum!!!! no doubt about it.
Although I knew T? before the release I think it’s their masterpiece.

Nirvana had Nevermind
Red Hot Chili Peppers had Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Metallica had the Black album

Therapy has Troublegum.

Also the live shows were the greatest during that period!

In my opinion, Troublegum is by far the best record Therapy? ever released…a real masterpiece, comparable to NMA’s Thunder & Consolation, The Cure’s Disintegration, RATM’s debut, Zion Train’s Homegrown Fantasy, The Who’s Quadrophenia…

Troublegum definitely has the highest number of great songs, so it gets my vote. But I have to say Infernal Love was their most well-crafter ALBUM, the way each song flowed into each other, setting the mood. Sort of went back to the 70’s where artists took the album-oriented approach and could care less about singles.
