So what’s your favourite cocktail?

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

I also like the tricky dicky screwdriver. It’s Jello Biafra’s favourite, by the way.

There are only 10 options available. I thought about naming Screwdriver and Whiskey Sour as well, but…

For me, it’s White Russian.

allroy, were’s the margaritha? I’m a tequila girl that likes them sour, so tequila sunrise is a no-can-do. I’m not going to vote if there’s no margaritha in the list

Spoilt marja: I don’t like this, I don’t like that.
I pity your poor friend cooking for you. :p

I had a dream about drinking ‘Baby Guinness’ last night (same as a B52 but layered to look like a pint of Guinness) so I voted B52. But really I’ve acquired a taste for Jager Bombs recently- both expensive and devistating!

Quick thought- on monday no less than 3 members of staff in the Manchester Uni Bar (on seperate occaisons) didn’t know what a Black Russian was! Useless bar! The first time one guy chipped in and said you can’t have a cocktail but you can have vodka, Tia Maria and Coke. Ermmm, yes, thats exactly what I’d expect it to be most places as few seem to have Kahluaroonie :p

I’ve seen different ‘official’ recipes that say either Tia Maria or Kahlua, I no longer know which is ‘right’. *shame*

You can also have it without coke.

I’d prefer Tia Maria in stead of Kahlua and without coke. And if you swap the vodka for brown rum you’ll get a very black Cuban. Delicious :)

Okay, I have golden rum, and no tia maria (kahlua, though :))… :(

I DO have a slice of lemon, though :D

Will have to try it later.

I just meant the standard drink used for it in most places is Tia Maria and not Kahlua and with the it being three ingredients that makes it a cocktail in legal bar terms, but I’ve not looked at my rules for a while, I really should brush up on them :) Its just that the guy got arsey and then said I could have what I’d just asked for (in terms of my expectation).

I must make an effort to get/drink through this thread at some point though I don’t know if I’d make it end to end. ;)

The Revolution White Russian uses kahlua, vanilla vodka, milk/cream thing and chocolate schnapps. Couldn’t say what a black russian uses

:) Yeah, I knew what you meant, I was just having a drink-related existential panic. :D What did the barman say when he made the drink anyway? ‘There is your vodka with Tia Maria and coke’?
‘ah, a Black Russian, thanks!’
*barman pulls drink out of reach* ‘No, it’s a Vodka with Tia Maria and coke.’ *stern look* ‘What is it?’
‘A Vodka with Tia Maria and coke?’
*presents drink*
‘better.’

:D

Drinking your/our way through the thread? Sound slike a damn fine idea to me. Costly, perhaps, dangerous, most likely. But damn fine all the same :)

@WhitePsycho, that Revolution White Russian sounds great, where did you get the recipe for? (and I love your hair, did you go to that new place on the corner, ooh they are lovely there, aren’t they? :D)

I used to work at Revolution in bradford. What a horrible job. Thats the only cocktail I can remember how to make:-
25ml = 1 shot

fill 16oz glass with ice
1 shot of kahlua
1 shot of stolinaya vanilla vodka
dash of Teichenne chocolate schnapps
fill to top with 50/50 (milk and cream in a 70/30 proportion, don’t know why its called 50/50)
chocolate sprinkles on top

serve with 2 straws, one bent towards customer and with a napkin under the drink, charge £3.75 and hate life until quitting

The younger me…by around 1 year now. It is a tasty drink though, just a lot cheaper to make it at home

You were there weren’t you? ;)

I think the funniest thing is that the guy who basically said that wasn’t serving me. The girl who was serving told me that she didn’t speak English very well but was more than happy to ask me what it was, how to make one and then go to pour it but he overheard and started yacking. I told him he’d just described what I wanted and he just looked away and slighty pissed off

The girl however was very nice about it and thus recieved a good tip :)

Ah but without the stirling service ;)

@HeySatan, maybe it was just the way the bar priced it up or something? *shrugs* just trying to justify the behaviour of a goit. :D

errrrrrr…not really. Took about 30 mins of queuing, another 20 mins of actually being served because the back bar was ridiculous and you couldn’t find anything. It was crap
