Wall of Mouths

I own a Marshall personally. Mesa Boogie has some good stuff. Alot of bands I like use them and they have a great sound. They just don’t sell them in any of the shops I know of, so i haven’t been able to sit down with the various types they have.

SOme of the Johnsons’s sound pretty good to, and usually come with a ton of effects, and speaker emulators built in. Bit pricey though.

Have you considered, takes breath, looking on ebay? I bought my JCM900 Dual Reverb 4100 head and a 2x12 cab fitted with celestions for £450 all in mint condition.

As long as the person has good feedback you can generally get away with out getting your fingers burnt. Also buyying second hand will help you get a better rig for half the origonal price.

Makes to look out for, Laney, Peavey, Randall.

ebay’s always a valid option, but British mail… Well that’s another matter. MY dad’s got something against Laney (dunno what, exactly), and since he’s paying a good whack of it for Christmas, I doubt he’d appreciate me getting one :)

I think I’ll probably go for the Randall and get a Behringer 4x12, but I’ve head Behringer are really unreliable (but then again, what exactly could go wrong with a speaker cab?)

Behringer 4x12 cab will beat many of those “legendary” marshall cabinets made in 80´s and after. Some of those series that marshall made then and now are real poor sounding. Not all but some.
Theres so many guitarists that play trough a bad cabinet because they think that if it says Marshall it´s good. I say go with the Beringer. Low price meets a decent quality there. And if you don´t wanna have a Marshall anyway you don´t have a problem with the logo.
Still I must say I´m all the way a Marshall man myself. But for an amp try out the Crate Blue Voodoo head if you can. You might like that one.
Rock and/or Roll

Valve amps aren’t so bad. They cut down on your heating bills. Just play for an hour or so, and those tubes get toasty enough to heat your room for a the rest of the night :D

Here’s the latest; I have NOT changed my mnd about the Randall amp; its definitly the one I want. The cabinet however… I was thinking 4x12 may be a BIT excessive. But then I thought, hey, why shouldn’t it be? So, anyway, I was beginning to consider this; RS125XL Cabinet by Randall. Its got 2x12 Celestion 80s, and an Eminence 15” speaker on the bottom. Not only will it do with my amp, and give me more bottom end than I could ask for, but it will also mean that I will have the same surface area as the bass playing in our band. I PROPOSE A DUEL! And then my high frequencies would tear throuh his sound like an appropriote similie. A ha ha ha ha.

have you tried a marshall jmp1 with a 9/200 power amp tellin ya there is no sound quite like it

I Tried out an Orange Thunderverb head with its own special cab (as it can be used as a bass amp as well) yesterday and I was very very impressed with the sound of it. Distortion with it was a phat thick sound but had perfect clarity to it and with my les paul was the sound I have been looking for and would be my ideal set up. I tried the other orange amps they had there and they are also brilliant the combos are great for the price as well. I did try some randals and mesa boogie amps but although they were very powerful they lacked the thickness and sounded too clinical.
